Tale of the Tribe

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra played a concert on a local beach, where people from all over the city and abroad gathered to listen to the music. Large events like this one are usually relatively peaceful. A visiting colleague from California once remarked how well behaved people were after he attended the summer fireworks extravaganza along with 500,000 others.

"You couldn't get this many people jammed in a small space without somebody getting shot," he said starkly.

I didn't know if he was joking or not.

"People are chilled here," I said, "but drunk fights do happen now and then."

There were no drunk fights at the symphony, just chilling and good vibes.
