Exploring the beauty of soulful music.
I have never been proud of my dancing skills outside but whenever I am in the mood, I love to dance a lot to good music because it makes me happy and I consider it a form of exercise. My definition of good music is a song with good sound ( rhythm + melody) and lyrics, I look out for these things because without them, there is no good music.
I am a chronic music lover and my love for good music started when I was younger. I think my love for music was inspired by my family because the majority of them are also good music lovers.
I grew up with my grandmother and I always watched my aunties listening and singing really lovely music. I don't understand many of the lyrics and just danced to the beat from our old sound system back then. Throughout my years in junior school, I always had some lyrics book in my bag just to master my favourite songs.
I don't care if buying those books would mean that I have to stay in class during lunch break and what matters to me is that, I can learn the lyrics of the songs I love so much. I hail from a family of music lovers and it's funny how none of us is blessed with the ability to sing because if we could, every member of the family would have given their best just to support that one member who will represent what music means to us as a family.
I grew up listening to Asa and she turned out to be one musician that blesses my heart with good music. ASA's style of music stands out always for me and I find it difficult to compare her with any female Nigerian musician. Please don't get me wrong, I love many musicians but when it comes to listening to something that touches my soul, ASA is one musician I always fall back on.
I love Jennifer Lopez, Adele and many other musicians because of the great music they bless us with as well. My aunties listened to Westlife a lot and many of them love their songs, I don't know if they have new songs but I still enjoy listening to their old songs because they are still very relevant today.
My favourite genres are Pop and Afrobeat, I don't hesitate to listen to good songs even though it doesn't fall into any of these categories. I love to attend concerts and the last time I did was in December when many awesome musicians decided to bless us with their presence in Lagos.
It was my first time seeing many of them and I was excited even though I was only watching from the crowd. It was fun attending and the energy at the concert hit differently. I danced a lot since no one was watching me and I didn't realise how tired I was until after the concert.
Music is something that unites the world just like football and it has brought the world together a lot of times. I love music and wouldn't mind because a musician is in another world if reincarnation is true.
