The Beatles' music has been part of my life. From family road trips, to study afternoons. I am 31 years old, and therefore, for obvious reasons I was not able to live Beatlemania. However, I recently experienced the closest thing to it: they released a new single, titled Now and Then.

This song was composed by John Lennon, when he was living in 1970s New York, many years after the quartet broke up.

According to a short film posted on the band's YouTube channel, this song is not only their last song as a group, but it came to be released this year because technology allowed it.

In 1994, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney got together to give music to two songs composed by Lennon during his solo stage, and musically much more melancholic in my opinion.

They are Free as a bird, and Real Love. Now and then was the third song, but the technology of the time couldn't do much to give it the quality it deserved. Lennon's voice was overshadowed by the piano. It should be noted that these were home recordings.

However, in 2022, the team of director Peter Jackson, director of the documentary Get Back, developed a technology capable of separating all the elements of the song, in order to work on them in a specific way. This is how Lennon's voice was no longer overshadowed, and how we became part of one more chapter (or the last) of this band that revolutionized modern music.

This can be a reason for different debates about artificial intelligence. There are many opinions about it, and I think that in this case, it can be very useful, because otherwise we would be missing songs like Now and Then.

It is not the best of The Beatles, nor should it be, but it is a tribute not only to Lennon but to the whole era, a lifestyle even.

La música de The Beatles ha sido parte de mi vida. Desde viajes familiares, hasta tardes de estudio. Tengo 31 años, y por lo tanto, por obvios motivos no pude vivir la beatlemanía. Sin embargo, recientemente viví lo más cercano a esto: lanzaron un nuevo sencillo, titulado Now and then.

Esta canción fue compuesta por John Lennon, cuando vivía en la Nueva York de los 70, muchos años después de que el cuarteto se separara.

De acuerdo a un shortfilm publicado en el canal de Youtube de la banda, esta canción no solo es la última canción de ellos como grupo, sino que llegó a ser publicada este año porque la tecnología lo permitió.

Se trata de Free as a bird, y Real Love. Now and then era la tercera canción, pero la tecnología de la época no pudo hacer mucho para darle la calidad merecida. La voz de Lennon era opacada por el piano. Cabe destacar que eran grabaciones caseras.

Esto puede ser motivo de diferentes debates en torno a la inteligencia artificial. Opiniones al respecto hay muchas, y creo que en este caso puede ser muy útil, porque de lo contrario nos estaríamos perdiendo de canciones como Now and then.

No es la mejor de The Beatles, ni tampoco tendría por qué, pero es un homenaje no solo a Lennon, sino a toda época, un estilo de vida incluso.
