Argenis and the Vinyl Resurgence (ENG-ESP)

I was passing through a market when I came across a stall run by a middle-aged man. His name is Argenis, and he buys and sells vinyl records.

He caught my attention because, in this digital age, these records could be considered, well, useless. But I was surprised to find that there are people like Argenis who, by taking charge of buying them, give them new life. Maybe it's obvious to many, but it's genuinely the first time in many years that I've seen a stall like this.

Estuve de paso por un mercado y encontré el puesto de un hombre de mediana edad. Su nombre es Argenis, y se dedica a la compra y venta de discos de acetato.

Llamó mi atención porque, en la era digital, estos discos podrían considerarse, digamos, inservibles. Sin embargo, me llevé la sorpresa de que hay personas como Argenis que, al encargarse de comprarlos, les dan vida. Tal vez sea obvio para muchos, pero realmente es la primera vez en muchos años que veo un puesto de este estilo.

My dad used to have a vinyl record player, so I had the chance to see how one works. Argenis also digitizes them.

"It's not that I'm getting rich from this," Argenis told me, "but I do it because I love it, and there are people who collect them, or who simply prefer listening to music on record players because the sound is unmatched."

Mi papá tenía un reproductor de discos de acetato, así que tuve la oportunidad de ver cómo funciona uno. Argenis también los digitaliza.

"No es que me haga millonario con esto, pero lo hago porque me gusta, y hay personas que los coleccionan, o también prefieren escuchar música en los reproductores porque el sonido es inigualable", me dijo Argenis.

So, there's space for everything. Maybe a smaller space for some things, but it's there. Argenis sells everything, from Venezuelan salsa to British rock. The genres are varied, and he's always open to finding new material.

"I have over 5,000 records," he told me proudly.

Así que hay espacio para todo. Tal vez más pequeño para algunas cosas, pero lo hay. Argenis vende de todo, desde salsa venezolana hasta rock británico. Los géneros son variados y siempre está abierto a conseguir nuevo material.

"Tengo más de 5 mil discos", me comentó con orgullo.
