Three Tune Tuesday: Halloween Lullabies
What's up music lovers!
I've been meaning to participate for three tunes tuesday with @ablaze but every time I remember, it's way passed Tuesday so I let it go. We are now Sunday, perhaps by tuesday, I'll have this typed out with my time and efficiency 😂. I know I'm terrible, IT IS WHAT IT IS... isn't it?
Every time I did make it to the Hive weekly digital event, I always picket some weird or niche songs that are completely irrelevant to my actual preferred music genre like I just scribbled it down in the back of a stamped up bingo card of a song I might wanna use for something in 30 years when I grow up.
Why? Well one it really messes with people's brains at times but I'm not entirely sure why and I don't care enough to find out. The second reason, sharing our favorite tunes is too easy. Don't worry I don't judge the ones that do because the whole point is to speak on music that speak to us and in what way, even if it's just that brief moment in 40 years of existence. I don't think there is any real wrong way to approach this challenge/display now is there!
I generally like to go more niche as a personal preference because it forces me to look for different songs outside my own genre, helps bring new perspective sometimes. I like to secretly sing along to stuff too. Sometimes just a song that I can attempt to harmonize with a little. Folks, always do that with noise cancelling hear phones! Our voices always sound better in our head than out loud. The neighbors can have the out loud part, I seriously don't want it....bahahaha. 😆
Well I'm sure some of you are good signers so you probably don't need that sort of signing along advice. What is my preferred genre then? Well I suppose that's a fluid answer too. Depends on the day, time of day...depends on a lot of things. Lets just go with flavor of right now for now.
And since I like lyrics:

Yes that's right. I'm a complete metalhead. Metal of all kinds... The ones I weld, the ones I wear and yes...Now I present you THE JEWELS TO MY EARS. We have a Sirius XM subscription, works in the vehicle, home on the tv or phone...wherever has internet. It's a pretty sweet subscription for those you just like randomness without really keeping track too much. Most songs and bands I enjoy I know but sometimes not. This one would be one I really like that always stands out every time it plays. the often have what they call STAR TAKE OVERS. This tidbit will be relevant for a later song but for now...
The star take overs are generally done on long weekends where the regular beloved DJ's deserve some time off to chill and have a vacation like the rest of us tired souls, they invites band they have exclusive contracts with that will generally take over a station completely for a week before the release of a major Album in exclusive sxm fan introductory exclusives and live concert or instrumental versions of previous albums, they generally talk deeper about different things. No I don't advo for the service as a bot add, it's just a cool home feature I enjoy that I know others here might to. I probably stopped adding to the cd collection a decade ago. I still have the existing stuff tho, how can I not. Souvenirs of the past I suppose. I don't even have a device to play them with.
I'm an easy listener over all and like many genres and can find a way to entertain myself in some sense. That comes from being a bartender and having to the same 10 club songs over and over again. Once people are drunk, it's true...nobody gives a fuck what's on repeat. Is it bouncy? Yeah! Alright lets clumsily move around while not spill our drinks! OOPSY...I SPILLED MY DRINK ALL OVER MYSELF. Not bad on the dancefloor, it gets moped up but on the carpet, eww...30 years worth of spilled drinks smells awefull if you are sober. As a bartender I see saw a lot of weird shit. Also as a convenience store clerk. Jeepers.

Working at Tim Horton's when I was a kid. The same old folks small town neutral radio channel on a one hour time loop because I worked the graveyard shift and they only have a person working during the day. At the time that stupid Kid Rock and Sheryll Crow song pictures or whatever it's called was really popular and played every half hour all night EVERY NIGHT. Not that I have a beef with either or musicians or question their talents. Just that song got way overplayed...M-Kay? I had to find a way to pretend it didn't exist and completely tune it out. What a skill!
*The flames/pyro in this photo, you could feel from where I was, outdoor open roof stadium. The home of the now called Edmonton Elks perhaps, been lots of controversy I don't keep up with over the naming of out CFL home team.
Alright, that had nothing to do with Metallica but it did feel like a nightmare deposited in my head until I figured it out. Ok, now lets get out of irrelevancy. Where I come from, many fans growing up. Can't say I was a hardcore fan, can't say I disliked them either. Living in a thin walled 100 yr old apartment building and young men neighbors that used to blast it every afternoon, well it grew on me like the boogie man I suppose....The hard wood worked frames and tall ceilings with French doors in that apartment were amazing. Cheap and fucking magnificent. Plus I worked at the restaurant below. Good way to pick up extra shifts at the drop of a hat. It used to be the town's first supermarket after the fire I think converted into a restaurant. Maybe it survived it, I don't remember. Gorgeous building in and out nonetheless with a lot of town history.
Not from the recent concert I missed but the first one I attended and posted on my ladybug account for all 3 Metallica concert pic, just thought some live concert pick might fit nicely with this post.
Of by the way, back to irrelevancy but I lived at the town's first bank too (obviously not simultaneously). My apartment was right in front of the vault. Of course it was empty but cool to be able to see inside a vault from 1912. Many of the old buildings are still standing being built in solid stone and were converted into a business front on the bottom floor and apartment flats at the top. Charming concept.
Now that I live in a major urban center, the boogie man now visits himself in person! YEAH. Sounds a lot better then thru thin apartment walls with 60 000 other signing fans in a stadium concert! Why in this post? Well just a few weeks ago they came around as part of one of their major tours in a 2 day extravaganza. I wish I could have gone and was supposed to go but my ankle is probably still a little too weak for a lot of stadium walking and several hours of fun trashing around like I just don't care! (obviously in a tasteful metal kinda way...ya know. James don't fuck around and shut that shit down for everyone pretty quick...RESPECT. The safety of the fans and venue is important especially with this many fans...as a concert going fan, well I really see value in that. More artist should conduct theirs the same.
The left photo is this tour's numbered lithograph. Well one of three. These flew off the shelf like hotcakes probably being the first item sold out everywhere. One is better then none. Like Alberta elk meets The Nightmare Before Christmas. 😍😍😍 Mr. Elk gives it 14 points up out of 14.
Since on is looking a little underwold-ish and the other more earthly...how did that happen? Perhaps Metallica has the answer in one of their songs on the set list of the Hardwired to Self Destruct tour, this one video was filmed at the very show I was at and the 3 photos are from. How is that for personal eh! The video is from Metallica's official youtube page...Sorry not sorry, it was better LIVE. YEAH I WAS THERE! HEAR YOU LOUD AND CLEAR UP HERE😜

I dunno about living forever has made it to the elk population yet. I have evidence otherwise and it was delicious especially as pasta. What's the relevance to this post? None besides it's Elk also one of my favorite restaurants that survived the recent massive Jasper fire that nearly took out half of the town. Fiddle River, named after a local river. Lots of buildings around it burned but this one was spared.
Alright, this last song wasn't part of the plan, the train derailed a little, these things happen when talking about concerts. What's next the unknown state of death or immortality of the audio world? Well this one the video really creeps me out but also oddly creative that I very much enjoy it. Not too sure what's going on there tho. This is from the previously mentioned set list on sxm radio. The perfect fit for the upcoming Halloween season.

This was from last years Edmonton Halloween pumpkins after dark exhibit. That should be coming to a scary neighborhood near you soon. I know it's a bit of a juvenile activity but I had a blast as an adult too. Makes a great photography project and a bit of a fall outdoor walk.
Gene, you mind putting that tongue back? I've seen enough creepy shit for tonight. I think I need to get outta here for a bit....ishh
OOOOHHHH... BURN...well that's a little awkward.
I dunno what your thoughts are but I'm starting to feel a little haunted from all the weird creatures and the nightmares around here, think it's time I I get into my fiery chariot and perhaps go repent.
DRIVE THE CAR! DRIVE THE CAR!
Alright, enough messing around what's next on the music list?

This is getting out of hand quickly turning more into a Sunday night duet concert with a computer while pretending like it is still Saturday. Well the cats haven't run away yet tho, must not be that bad...not enough lawn mower sounds to accompany maybe. September 15 2024 Live Algorithm tour of youtube. That's the set list. Sorry I don't have lithograph or T-shirts yet. I'm small potatoes. Since we are on the topic of digging up dead things from the internet posted 15 years ago. A step back into Alberta's Important History we hold dear here in the Great Planes. 🤡
Alright now that was kinda scary too. Halloween brings out all kinds of things from the unknown. I like cats but that's a lot of cats. It is estimated that in the city of Edmonton alone, there may be a few hundred thousand feral/discarded pets at any given point across the city boundaries. Don't get from a pet shop...adopt a kitty in need! Edmonton's Humane Society or your local animal shelter in your city already has them herded for you so you don't have to do the hard work like these fearless cowboys besides loving it. Well maybe a few other things, they are a bit finnicky like that.

Since a young age, well whenever they came out. I was always a fan of Audioslave and M. Cornell, Like A Stone being one of my favorites. They are all my favorites to be honest. My right now favorite of his, how is that? I found this recent remake that I have to say is equally awesome. Sometimes it's hard to live up to an already great song but this hits out of the park. The perfect mix of personal creativity with the instrumental meanwhile keep the original essence we all love lyric and vocal wise. A MASTERPIECE

https://genius.com/Disturbed-the-sound-of-silence-lyrics
I don't know too much about the original, not my style so I wont pick it apart. Looks a little groovy maybe more my parent's age. Disturbed has been one of my long time audio friend, well I suppose by now that's not a shock. This remake tho. Ok, funny boring story. Back when I was young, I needed like 3 jobs to make rent, shit how times haven't changed over the decades eh! Nyways, one of those jobs was for me to take the opening shift at the gym on Sunday mornings because everyone else was too hungover so it just became a thing.
My other usual shifts were all late night when I wasn't working at Tim Horton, the bar or whatever combo I maintained over the years. Yeah my days off. What days off? What is that? Ok lets put this train back on the tracks, the customer base on the evening shift and Sunday morning is much MUCH different. It's mostly the older ladies that feel intimidated working out when it's all the bodybuilders. Well no doubt I guess. I would do my cleaning fast and that's always done better with some good tune to prime me up before opening the gym.
My boss was generally one of the probably hungover ones so the chances of him coming in was probably slim to none. So I blasted it. I would change it to old lady music after unlocking the door. I even had made a special computer folder/playlist just for it. Obviously my boss took pride in a varied atmosphere that promotes strength training of all walks of life and capacities.
One day, I forgot to make the switch and carried on with other duties then my boss walked in and a disturbed song was blasting the gym, none of the ladies complained so my brain never really registered the "choice music" as he called it. I think Down with the sickness was probably the song playing too, it was popular at the time and the evening body builders requested it quite a bit.
He quickly changed the music and scolded me on terrorizing the old ladies and I agreed my actions were inappropriate, although not that severe he was right in a sense too. After he leaves. I get approached by one of the ladies training...Can you put back the scary music that was on before? Not my style but I lift more weights faster so I like it here. Motivational. I told her my boss scolded me. Then one after another, they all started to complain about the boring music and put the other stuff back. They never heard before but liked working out to it. Well damn. Of course I put back! Every Sunday morning workout! Except when my boss was there, then I would bring the other file with pump up the jam and whatever other 90's tv bingo music was mingling in there. Alright @shawnnft I know you always wondered about that song and why I had weird old lady music taste. 😁
In case this post was traumatizing, here is a gentler way to end. Obviously the world these days is well. A little rough. This song was originally intended as a solo endeavor and reached it's popularity with it's deep reaching meaning and gained airspace fast across North-America. Earlier I mentioned about the star take overs, around the same time Carrie Underwood had a new tour and album coming up and it was her turn to the one of the star takeovers in the metal world of satellite radio promoting her next phase with some early exclusive sneak peaks of her own.
She loved this song and played it many times, both for it's artistry and message. An important one. One day she decided to sing along to it on air and Jacoby heard it. Real soon after, perhaps just a few weeks. THIS. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER. This is so harmonious, country star meets Rockstar, an unlikely mix but I got the chance to watch the remake in the making in slow motion on satellite radio and how it originated.

Well I suppose we should probably stop here after exploring half the internet for three tunes Sunday...hum...Tuesday. Since there is a lot of pretending on the internet, can we pretend it's Tuesday and there only three songs?
Count it as my Halloween post too. Multi tasking. Feeling kinda quiet these days so that's probably the closest thing to it you will get.
Alright, ROCK ON! xox
Today is Monday though or are you from the future? O.O
nothing weird or old lady about the songs you shared though. are you ok though? The songs you shared are a bit emo
Well it was sunday when I typed it, alberta is one of the latest in the time zones, there is almost a full day difference between the two of us.
Today is Monday though or are you from the future? Never know. 😆
You call everything Emo tho!
Reminiscing on the concert videos, I came across the firework finale that I posted a photo above in the post. This was a complete fluke btw that song ended up in my post...lets call it a happy coincidence. I wish this was the version I had shared of enter sandman originally but here is the video that matches the firework photo. Once again strait from their youtube page, filmed in Edmonton in 2017 by their team.
