Magic in the air

Have you ever come across a song and you go "Heeeyyyy, this song"? That's what happened earlier today when I was streaming songs with YouTube Music. I have found myself playing songs more with YouTube Music than Spotify these days because I realized that Spotify didn't have some songs I needed but when it comes to recommending songs, Spotify is better at that, although YouTube Music isn't bad at that aspect either, coz that was how I found the song that made me go "Heeeyyyy" today.

The song I'm talking about is 24k Magic by Bruno Mars and no, I'm not just hearing it for the first time, I came across it the very year the video was released which was 2018. Back then I used to watch MTV channel a lot and that was how I found the video which I guess made me love the song. 24k Magic is one of those songs that is more interesting when you watch the video, and that's because of how great the video is, makes you feel like you're part of the action and then Bruno Mar's dance moves even make it even better. Just check it out below

When the song played on YouTube Music, I instantly switched it to video, which is another cool thing I love about that app; you can switch between audio and video. While watching the video, I started thinking about the first time I heard Bruno's songs and then I remembered it was when I started watching MTV base channel back in 2011 and they always played one of his songs titled The Lazy Song (funny name). I remember watching it for the first time and I was like "Who is this funny guy dancing with some chimpanzees?" (Or people wearing chimp costumes).

Back then I used to listen to a lot of Lil Wayne's songs and there was one where he featured Bruno Mars titled Mirrors. That song is legendary; Wayne doing the rapping while Mars coming in smoothly with the chorus, a very melodic song. I was able to perfectly sing the song from beginning to end back in the day, and I just played it now to see if I still can and yes, I still remember all the lyrics. And so, that was how I started downloading some of Bruno Mars's songs, and here are some of my favourites.

That's what I like

This song flows smoothly from the beginning to the end and it sounds like Bruno is rapping. And you know what even made it better? The video. It was this music video that made me realize that Bruno can dance, dude was just busting out some sick moves and what even made the video stand out is that it is just him in it. Some animations were popping up here and there and they brought the whole thing together. Couple that with his dance moves and you've got a perfect video. The song has a very nice beat and is something I still vibe to even today.

Locked out of heaven

This is one of his songs I didn't watch the video until today. I mean, just wrote the title now and said "Let's see what the video even looks like" and well, it's not so great, felt like something from the '80s, heck, I have even seen some '80s videos looking better. But I didn't like this song for the video, the audio itself is the main reason. I played it a lot about a decade ago on my Nokia XpressMusic phone, together with Grenade, Just the Way You Are and Talking to the Moon. The song is one of those songs I love for no apparent reason, probably because it has a lot of strong, fast beats.

Just the Way You Are

This one never gets old, and a couple of companies in my country have even used it for their TV and radio adverts (I wonder if they got permission to do this). Just listen to the song and you will realize it's a romantic song. Sing it well for your crush and add in some great guitar skills, she will definitely fall in love with you 😉. Watching the video of this song will make you go "aww" a lot, and that might be because of the nice animations in it or the romantic scenes between Bruno and the female model (your choice). Again, it's a fantastic song with very beautiful lyrics.

Honourable mentions

  • Grenade
  • Talking to the Moon
  • Finesse (remix)

Conclusion

I have added all these songs to my playlist and I am just going to play them a lot until I get bored and forget them for maybe another 5 years. Bruno Mars is a legendary singer who has been in the game for a very long time but I prefer his old songs to the current ones (is he even still active?). It kinda feels like he has already given us all the good stuff years ago and for me, that's still okay, especially when you consider that most of the songs he released many years ago are still very interesting today, at least that's my opinion.

You really had a pleasurable tour through Bruno's songs. I trust you must have enjoyed a lot of them although you chose to streamline this little for our perusal. However, I also enjoy streaming through his songs given his style of music. Nice publication bye.
