Three Tune Tuesday - 80's Hardcore Punk

avatar

This is my first post for #threetunetuesday, created by @ablaze. I have leaflets advertising concerts I attended back in the 1980's, so I got the idea to share the image and three of the songs that you would likely have heard at the event. I'm not sure how popular 80's hardcore is with all of you, but it was a big part of my life at the time. So, without further ado, here's my first addition to Three Tune Tuesday:

Rather than start with a song by the headliners, I want to share one of my favorite songs of the time, "Reagan's In" by L.A.'s Wasted Youth. Saw these guys at a few venues, and they always ended up getting banned from further shows there due mostly to the antics of lead singer Danny Spira. At a show I saw at Alpine Village in Torrance, CA, Danny broke glass on himself and then rolled around in it, getting quite bloody in the process. There was a rumor at this time that Ronald Wilson Reagan (666) was the Anti-Christ, so I thought this song was cool.

The next tune is by Channel 3. It's called "Manzanar" after the WWII concentration internment camp in California where Japanese Americans were imprisoned by the government for no crime other than being of Japanese ancestry.

The third and last tune is "Trilogy" by Shattered Faith. I absolutely loved this song! The song starts slowly and you would circle the moshpit in slow-motion...and then go ape-shit when the tempo picked-up. This song always left me battered and bruised, but what a rush!

I hope that you enjoyed my first foray into #threetunetuesday. If you did, look forward to some more hardcore punk in the weeks to come.

I have a question, how do you share videos from youtube so that there are no ads in them.
Thanks for the reply

I have no idea. For these, I just clicked “share,” selected “embed” and copied and pasted the code.

Some fun songs, and some great picks. I've not heard of the second two but they were great to listen to! Most people here in the US don't even realize that the Japanese Americans were essentially put in concentration camps by FDR for no other reason than being Japanese descendants. It was a horrific moment in American History. They also forget that FDR also confiscated gold from American citizens, it became illegal to hold gold investments. Dark days in US history!

Great punk songs though! That's what I love about TTT!

Manzanar certainly isn't something I learned about at school. You can learn a lot from punk songs. Believe it or not, I had to look up what "denouement" when I first heard Bad Religion's Fuck Armageddon, This is Hell!.
