A long lasting nice Experience

It's been more than 30 years since rock music was still important and had great relevance. Artists were not pop bunnies who sang with computer voices, but stars with guitars, poets, explainers of the world.

We look back in a series. Today it's time for a New Miserable Experience... by the Gin Blossoms

The Gin Blossoms were just a very small band, and compared to the big stars of grunge, they were very quiet. But their album "New Miserable Experience" has withstood the test of time better than many other albums from the 90s.

The band's second record from Tempe, Arizona sounds like Soul Asylum plus Lemonheads minus the hit parade. Over mica guitars, Robin Wilsons sings in a guileless child's voice about lost friends, jealousy and loser types who are "always late with the rent" (Wilson).

Anyone who liked the Byrds and adored Hüsker Dü had to love the Gin Blossoms. Unexpectedly, there were so many people that the small band outlived a number of larger ones. They are still playing today all the hits like "Allison Road", "Follow you don" and "Hey Jealousy".
