My First Song - First Foot On Mars

Hi, new here. I have a question.

My question: Is it acceptable to post original songs on here even if the music is Ai generated?

I wrote a poem about being the first person to set foot Mars. Then I thought it might make a good song, but I'm not a musician.

To solve this problem I found the web site Suno that creates music for your songs.

I like the results and hope you do to.

If this is not the place to post this given the use of Ai just say. Thanks for listening.

How many generations did you need to do to get to the musical style / genre that you had intended for the song?

How would you feel if the style was metal, or country, or folk, instead?

Did you have a style in mind with the song, or did you let Suno decide?

Took a while. I tried to think of a style I wanted, then tweak it until I found what I liked. Then I went and remixed one section as I didn't like it.

This song wasn't too bad, even though it took a while. It has a flow that worked I think.

I'm working on another one of my poems that has a harder flow and that's proving tricky to find a style that works.

Do you use Suno?

I played with it for fun ages ago, but not too seriously. I started learning the Piano something like 2? ish years ago, and it taught me enough about musical theory to be ... not very good at making music, but a lot about the structure and flow of music.

It can be difficult, because the language used to describe music is very different from the language we use to describe the physical world around us (some may disagree) but as an untrained (I wouldn't count my Piano lessons as formal music training) musical person, I can detect clearly the formulas that apps like suno use to construct arrangements.

Music is mostly patterns and mathematics. Where it gets exciting (to me, at least) - is when people have bonds over it.

I think a song about going to Mars isn't a very relatable concept for a lot of people, so a song like this would be difficult, from a subject matter perspective. That doesn't make it bad, just makes it more difficult for people to connect with the song in the way they might connect with something about heartbreak, or playing with a cat, or walking a dog, or other experiences that we've shared.

That probably isn't unique to music - its the same in fiction, art, movies, games.

Yeah, it's always a dilemma, go for something more relatable, or a story I want to tell regardless. I've got a space theme going for something else so trying that. I do have a few other poems that aren't space related that I'll probably try to bring to music as well.

I'm finding starting with a poem has been good for me to try to capture the core of what I'm trying to convey. Just my mythology for now but may not always be.

I thought I try a couple and see how they go and see if enough people enjoy them to do some more.

At the end, it should always be about people! That's what we connect to the most.

I get what you mean about relatable. I'm in the process of writing a collection of speculative fiction (or sci-fi, as the kids would call it) - and not getting lost in technical detail or world building, and constantly needing to bring it back to people and their motivations is probably the most important part of it.
