A better Tribute

Greetings, music lovers!

It's possible for one to be a deep music person or lover and not know a particular trendy artist, right?
That's exactly what happened to me last year when I heard trending news about the death of one 'popular' song writer in my country, Nigeria.
The death came with a lot of controversies around a particular crew of music, of which I've never fancied their type of music, and that was what made me not know about the dead artist.

The death issue became such a national talk that it took over social media, with a lot of notable people sympathising with the deceased family. Also, the talk about his death with thick accusations against his music label was very intense.

Old my God, he was just 27years old with his first baby

"How come I don't know this person or any of his songs?"
This question refused to leave my heart until I went to YouTube to do searches on some of his hit songs, and I came across one to which I was able to relate. I had heard the song but never knew he's the one that did it.

I sighed and moved on.

A lot of things ensued, such as:

  • Findings on the cause of his death

  • The suspects were running away from the country.

  • Donations of money to his family to cater for his baby he left behind.

  • How is the money donated to be used?

  • The boy is his real son because the wife cheated.

And so on.

That's the internet for us!

To be sincere, I wasn't moved in all those because at a particular period it became a joke and not allowing the dead to rest in peace.

Just before his death, he worked on a track with Chike, and after the death, when everything had calmed down, Chike took permission from his family to release the song. They allowed him to do so, and he released the song, titled EGWU, which means DANCE, and within some hours, it topped the charts.

Magic!

The song achieved within hours what any of his songs when alive didn't achieve.

The song that was supposed to be gyration song became a mourning song.🥹

My main talk is particularly on the video.

Some months ago, the video was released, and I rushed to YouTube to check it out, and it was wow! I captioned the video, "A Better Tribute."
Although I didn't know the guy when he was alive, watching the video of this made me want to share tears.

From the beginning, his photos were displayed everywhere; in fact, the guy who owns the music (Chike is the first owner of the song, he only featured Mohbad) reduced his display time just to dedicate the video and pay maximum tribute to his friend. Chike only appeared on the screen few times.

Even at that, the video didn't deviate from the main theme of the song, which is DANCE. Hence the reason it was done in a carnival-like manner. People dressed in cultural attire were seen dancing.

On YouTube, I went on to check comments, and people really poured out their hearts in accolading the song and the brain behind the video for paying good tribute to the late Mohbad.

Thank you for reading.

I think a lot of us fall into categories of not knowing Mohbad until his demise hehe

But I shared tears listening to some of his songs, it is sad that such a raw talent has to depart so soon.

This is such a nice tribute song to him from Chike. May his soul rest in peace.
