This is a band I've enjoyed listening to since being introduced to a song of there's by a mate one night - pre-lockdown - while we were on the piss.

Sports - Viagra Boys

I mention that it was pre-lockdown, because, we had a pretty good thing going back then. On the weekend, and sometimes midweek, me and a friend would meet up around in his place and drink cans (or oyster wine... god, that was awful) and listen to music.

It was a great time, and after a bit of pre-drinking, we'd go to one of the local pubs that was good for a lock in. We'd saunter down, sometimes close to midnight and stay there until 3, 4 maybe 5 in the morning, depending on the night. Good times.

This song kind of gives me flashbacks to that time, as it was apart of the playlist.

Research Chemicals - Viagra Boys

I think of the singer from my band when listening to this tune. He's a bit of a guinea pig, because he orders little packages of research chemicals and tests them out to see if they work. Most do what they're supposed to do, but it's a bit of a lucky dip.

This band seemed to come out of a time where bands like this were really kicking off and gaining traction.

Slaves, Amyl and The Sniffers, The Chats, Idles, Viagra Boys, and a bunch of others, all seemed to kick off out of nowhere, and bring things back to the basics to a certain extent and give something that isn't glamorous, or pretentious; just some good raw noise.

From say, 2017-2019, things kicked off, and seemed to be moving in a good direction for all the bands like this - hell, my own band even had some good movement like we'd never seen before - then the lockdown fucked it up.

I love the line in this, "It ain't like other shit, it's 20 times as strong. You'll know it's working when everything feels wrong."

Ain't Nice - Viagra Boys

The video of this one is sick, I love those kind of continues shots when they crop up in films, tv, or music videos. There's so much rehearsing that goes into something like that, and everyone has to hit their marks at the right time.

Not only a good video, the song itself is class and it quickly became one of my favourite of theirs once I heard it.

The singer is the kind of guy, who everyone knows. There's at least one person in everyone's lives who is exactly the way he acts.

Any way, that's all for today, I'm going to crawl back into the recesses of mind and daydream about a world before that covid bullshit stole 2 years of all our lives and ruined a bunch of stuff for a bunch of people.
