Some New Songs From The Coverbands Setlist

I thought I'd share a couple of tunes from the coverbands setlist. These are a few new ones we've added to the set, and we'll be playing them for the gig we have organised for Paddy's Day.

Message In A Bottle - The Police

The bass in this song isn't overly tricky, but it was a tough one to really nail down and it took a good 2 or 3 rehearsals before I felt completely comfortable with it.

It's a great song and I particularly love the ending of it, as we all tend to speed up a bit while playing and it ends the entire song on a high.

I've never been the biggest Police fan, but I know a bunch of their songs, and before playing this one I didn't stop to listen to it. That's what I find with doing the covers, it's great to really deconstruct other people's songs and hone in on the different elements of them, individually.

Whiskey In The Jar - Metallica

I've always liked the Thin Lizzy version of this song, and originally that was the one we were going with until we actually played it. When we did we came to the realisation that the Metallica version would be a much better version to do when playing live, since it has a lot more oomph to it.

I actually saw them live and they did this song, which was sick, and they also played The Wild Rover too, and that was great.

Our version of Metallica's version, of the Thin Lizzy version, is actually a combination of the two of them, and it was one of the hardest songs for us to grasp initially, which is mad because it really isn't that hard of a song to play.

Flowers - Miley Cyrus

This song is kicking my ass at the moment, but it's really fun to play. The bassline in this is so prominent, and there are so many instances where I keep getting tripped up.

There are a few instances where there are full stops, and a half beat of not starting which keep getting me too. The song really utilises silences to great effect to build a bit of anticipation.

Not really my cup of tea, but it is a good one to play.

That Police guitar part is hard. I've tried playing it. The bass is cool too. That's a good selection of songs to entertain your audience.
