Sharing Some Offspring For TTT
One of my all-time favourite albums is one from was I was a kid, and that I used to listen to all of the time called, Americana, by The Offspring. To me, it's not only well produced, but each song on the album is a classic, and from start to finish it's amazing.
Walla Walla - The Offspring
This one here is one of my favourites on the album and is such a punchy song, coupled with some funny lyrics, but it's not a comedy, and to me feels it a lot more real than just a joke song. It's about a friend being wished well as they're off to jail for messing around once too often, and now that they've appeared in front of the judge again the lenience is no more, and they're being carted off.
Goodbye my friend, you've messed up again, you're going to prison, you're off to the pen. You've got off easy, so many times, I guess no one told you, how to get a life.
The lyrics just fit so well with the music, and I find it so easy to sing along to.
Pay The Man - The Offspring
I've always loved this song. It's the final song of the album and is very different compared to the other tracks on the album itself.
It has this - I don't even know - eastern riff to it during the intro of the song, which gives it the initial impression of being from a different album, or from a different band altogether. That is until the music kicks in, and there's an incorporation of the initial riff, mixed with a bit more grungy music until it breaks down again to the build-up.
The vocals in it - when they come in - are very hypnotic in a way, through the use of distortion, and the lyrics themselves seem to twist and turn around the mind.
Why Don't You Get A Job - The Offspring
I've always liked this song and actually started learning it with the cover band I'm in with the intention of playing it live and adding it to the set, but sadly we dropped it, due to a few complications.
Nonetheless, it's a kickass song and incorporates some ska into their music. The bassline is pretty sick, and while it's a bit complicated, I was able to get the hang of it pretty easily after some practice.
Again, this song is a bit different compared to some of the others on the album, and as a whole, this album is a great reflection of The Offspring, and how far they came as musicians throughout their career up to this point.
Nostalgic indeed. I was pretty much collecting all Offspring CD's that I could find in those years. In all honesty, I would have different favorites ( Pretty Fly for a white Guy felt kind of mainstream to me ). After this album I moved to other bands. Less punk, more rock and pop ( Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and the like ).
This sure brings me back to the last couple of years of high school, years full of confusion 🙂

From here I went more into metal, Slayer, Lamb of God, Slipknot and that kind of stuff, and then when I hit my mid-teens I went more into punk, Dead Kennedy's, Subhumans, although at same time I was and still am into Nofx who'd be one of my favourite bands, and still are.
You're right man, it's so hard to choose only a few songs from this album, because it's all great, apart from Pretty Fly For A White Guy as it is the most mainstream sounding song from the album, but listening to it without that in mind, it's a really good song and is no wonder it was propelled. My favourite song from this album is the opening, Have You Ever, the lyrics are amazing, and I learned the bass of it not long ago, which is kind of tough, but not too hard.
Oh wow! That is so nostalgic for me. I had borrowed this cassette from a friend when I went for a 3-4 day vacation with my parents and sis. I was in the awkward junior in-college mode and had my headphones on all the time listening to this album on repeat. The reason I had borrowed this tape was for the song Pretty Fly for a White Guy which had a huge rotation on MTV and Fm radio at the time. I ended up loving Why Don't You Get A Job a LOT!!!
I think I must have been in my punk mode cause I remember loving "Have you ever", absolutely ADORED "Staring at the Sun", loved to sing Pretty Fly ("un dos tres cuatro cinco cinco seis" 🤣 ), hard rocking with "The Kids Aren't Alright", & LOVED the Job song!
I feel every kid at that time would love this album as it felt like all our favorite bands in one cassette. Why don't you get a job reminds me of the Beatles. Pay the Man reminds me of Led Zep and the first album of Pink Floyd. End of line reminds me of Iron Maiden. Great album. Sadly I did not follow up on the band. Good memories though. Wish we could discuss this album over some cold brew
Have You Ever is such an amazing song and the lyrics are really well thought out in general the song was a great opening for this album. I love the tonal shifts throughout the album as a whole, each song showcases their skills as musicians and their musical influences.
Haha, I was the exact same, as soon as I got to a certain age, music was a big part of my life, either listening to headphones or having it on the stereo. It still is today, and I love nothing more than throwing on some headphones and thinking. I'm a pretty visual thinker, so a lot of the time I tend to play out scenarios, which sometimes get turned into the short stories I write. Also, if I'm working on a short film, I play it out in my head in full which helps refine the script and come up with the storyboard. At this point, I should probably credit some of the bands I listen to at the end of a production.
That would be brilliant! I'm hoping to get to Hive Fest this year since I've missed the other years. It would be nice to be able to meet up with some fellow Hivers in person at it. I don't think the location has been revealed yet, but I'm keeping an eye out for it.

Oh man, yeah The Kids Aren't Alright is such a good one. Very bittersweet lyrics, and the music video is kickass too, simple but effective.
I remember when I was at school The Offsprings was the sht, the first video that stick to my head, back in the day when MTV was the coolest thing every, was the cringe video of "Give me to me baby aha aha ....Pretty Fly" lol but my fav from Americana was "FEEEEEEELLINNNGGGSSS OOOHHHHOOHH FEEEELINGGGSSS" those were good times ✌️🤘
Hahahah, yeah that song doesn't do them justice. Although, funnily enough, I remember an advert from when I was a kid that used the song for Ed, Edd, and Eddie on Cartoon Network.
Feelings, woah oh oh, Feelings, get out of my, life! Such a good song. I think this album is a perfect one to throw on, as every song of it is a classic.
Yeah is one of those rare albums that even the songs that were not well known were a hit 🤘
