Sharing Some Irish Rap For TTT
Kneecap is a group I've been following for a while, they rap in both English and Gaelic, and they're based in Belfast. Recently I saw a BBC interview with them talking about a film they wrote and produced which is a semi-fictionalised retelling of how they formed, and it's being shown at Sun Dance Film Festival, and it's the first Gaelic language film to get onto it.
Here's A Link To The Interview If You Want To Check It Out.
Guilty Conscience - Kneecap
This song is pretty good and came out a few years ago. I like the music used for it and think it has a good fast pace that the lads keep pace with throughout.
The video is really good too, and is a good example of a video using one location but being entertaining.
Better Way To Live - Kneecap feat - Grain Chatten
This is one that released a few months back that I only recently came across, it's mainly in Irish and is pretty cool.
A couple of years ago there was a gig getting put on that we were playing at and the organiser said that they reached out to these lads to headline it, but the price they wanted for doing it was 2,000 Euros. They were already fairly big at that time and would have easily sold out the place, but no one had the money for them off the bat.
The venue wasn't large enough to hold enough people to make that much money anyway, so it was for the best. It would have been cool if they came down and done it though.
Sick In The Head - Kneecap
This one is their most recent song, and while it's fairly short, it's good and the video is decent for it too.
Good videos to accompany the music is the key to getting your stuff out there nowadays, me and the lads have about 5 ideas for videos for our songs now that the second album is coming out.
We want to record and release a few videos with the songs as we're releasing the album to help get a bit more traction. One before, then another as it releases, and a few more throughout the year.

They are doing very well recently. Getting a lot of airtime and hitting some of the biggest talk shows here.
Fair play to them.
Too right man, I'm glad to see they're doing well for themselves. I like seeing Irish bands, or artists in general getting some recognition.
They seem funny in the interviews I've seen them in, so that's a plus too.
The first and last tune is crazy especially with their titles, lol. Seeing them going to the confession room is very funny, and then their voices came, and I was like, what?
Yeah, you are right. Video quality matters in today's world. I wish you all luck.
Hahaha yeah it's a class video, it's great seeing decent videos done well that don't seem to have a major budget, it kind of gives hope for smaller bands without access to big scale productions.
Thanks so much, I'l be sharing our stuff as we get it out. I've been talking with the lads about potentially minting our songs as NFTs.
Yeah, that hope is something that makes one want to continue moving.
That's super nice. You can give me a tag if you don't mind. I'd love to listen in.
Okay brilliant, I'll keep you in mind when I release our next one.
Thank you 😊
Great stuff by the lads, although its not really my type of music, aimed more at the younger generation anyhow, but I can see they really giving there all. I liked the Guilty Conscience tune the most.
I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project! Check out our Reading Suggestions posts!

Yeah man that one is my favourite too. They have a good few songs out at the moment, I'd say with the movie coming out they might have a bunch of songs ready to release to capitalise on the publicity.
I just heard of them as they were in the paper at the weekend. I've not heard Gaelic rap before, but then I don't always listen to lyrics. I'm not so into rap generally, but I know it's massive. Are they the Irish Beastie Boys? ;)
I've never done a music video, but coming up with ideas is hard. You should talk to @ashtv as he's made a few. Not seen him on Hive in a while though.

Hahaha the Irish Beastie Boys is a good one. There seems to be a fair few rappers coming up in Ireland, but they're one of the first recently I've heard to sing in Irish. I like rap, but only a few groups. A Tribe Called Quest are one of my favourite groups, but when I was younger I was really into Eminem and Ice-T and still listen to them, but Eminem turned a bit crap after his first few albums.
If you ever want to brainstorm some doable and handy ideas to get started I'm open to it man. I love making music videos, I could even edit the footage if you were to do the shooting for something. I wouldn't charge either, I'd just do it for the fun of it.
I miss @ashtv I only went to check out his account, seems like that's a longer break than expected, I hope he's doing well. He's a really sound guy.
Thanks both, that means a lot.
Man - it’s been a hard 2 years.
I’m doing better now though, thanks for saying so @killerwot, that made my day
I still admire Hive, the people and what the community achieved. Perhaps I can make amends and look at coming back
Hey @ashtv I'm glad to hear you're doing better man. I was worried after checking up and seeing that you'd been off for so long. I wasn't sure if you'd lost your keys or something.
It would be great to see you around again dude, but do so in your own time and when you feel ready to.
Thanks man. Yeah it’s been a longer break than I anticipated, by a long shot.
I occasionally dipped my head back in to see what’s going on or if much had changed, but it looks pretty similar here as 2 years ago.
I’ve still got all my keys in tact. Never touched my Hive, it’s just sat there. But, I’m not fussed about that side of things.
Hope you’re well dude.
I'm doing really good, I've been building myself up here, and managed to do some pretty cool stuff. I wrote a feature film based around Hive, currently getting ready to announce a new update for it. I also wrote a novella and hired a friend from Hive to come on as a beta reader/ editor, and he has given me some great feedback and we're both thinking it could be really good with some work.
Also, the biggest and best thing to happen to me is I became a father. He's 10 months old at the moment, and it has been the best experience ever. We were like sleep deprived zombies at the start, and now I think the sleep depervation has turned into slight insanity. But, it's all worth it.
Ah man, congrats on fatherhood. I was thinking about those early days today too and how difficult they were. It’s a massive adventure you’re on, find the joy!
10 months is so so small, lots more beautiful moments to come and hopefully more quality sleep ❤️
Great news on the film and novel! Fantastic stuff. I’m pleased for you man.
It has been the best experience ever, and we've both taken to parenthood really well. He's the coolest little guy ever, and is constantly smiling and happy. He's also pretty social and is constantly looking around at people when we're out.

.Fair play to them. The video and tune for Guilty Conscience is really catchy and clever. Lots of potential, bringing the Irish language into their music is a great shout. Republic of Loose did that before and worked really well.

Yeah man, that's a class tune. It's great to see people using it a bit more in day-to-day life, hopefully, it sparks a bit more interest in it. One of my biggest regrets from being in school was not learning it properly, I wasn't the best student and hated school back then, kids these days seem to be using it a lot more. My partner's niece was singing us some songs in Irish, so I imagine Kaleb will be using it when he gets to school and maybe he can teach me some.
I'm the very same! It was my weakest subject at school, but I wish that I was better at it. From a heritage and history and folklore perspective it's so important.
But it's never too late, I often stick Radio na Gaeltachta in the car and watch stuff on TG4 with subtitles and I'm getting a bit better at it, but ya school was the right place to gain proficiency.
