Sharing A Few Tunes on Tuesday

(Edited)

It's three tune Tuesdays, so it's that great time of week where a bunch of people share a couple of tunes with the rest of the community.

Belle Sisoski - Hold On

I actually came across one of Belle Sisoski's videos on Instagram, where she ran through a bunch of different instruments - trying each one, as she discussed the idea of incorporating them all into a song. At the end of the video, she played a small clip of it, and I had to head over to YouTube to listen to the whole thing because it sounded really cool.

I've had a few ideas to create some songs based on the stories I write, and I wanted to use some rarely used instruments and make some strange stuff. When I heard this it was pretty close to what I had in mind. But, obviously, there isn't really a sci-fi twist to this, as there would be in the stuff I want to produce.

People in the comments of her videos seem to want more of this ethnic techno kind of stuff, so it seems she's doing pretty well for herself bring out this music. She also refers to the instruments she uses as 'Ethnic instruments' if I were her I'd coin the term Ethno for her genre (If she's the first person to do it) although, it is simular enough to a song from a short film I watched before. So, the idea isn't completely new, or genre-defining. It is pretty cool nonetheless, and I think Ethno should be a thing.

The Offspring - Have You Ever?

This song is the opening to their album Americana, and to be honest, I think this song defines that late 90's - mid 2000's music and sound, and in a way, it kind of captures a feeling to a certain extend. Nirvana kicked the doors of the music industry open, and from them, the studios were looking to sign any and all artists that remotely seemed that they knew what they were doing. If it wasn't for them, I don't think we would have had the explosion of bands that we had, or at the very least, they wouldn't have been as big as they were.

I've always really liked The Offspring, and this album is one of the best ones they made. I do like their other stuff, but this one here is their Nevermind.

Nirvana - Dumb

I suppose I could really mention Nirvana without sharing one of their songs too.

This song is really good, I love how the lyrics don't exactly reflect the sound of the song itself, and it creates this juxtaposition in the tone of it all.

I've watched this (live at reading) gig a bunch of times over the years, and it's such a great one. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who say that Nirvana was overrated or whatever, but they got to the level they did because they were great - especially Kurt, and it was just the right time, and right place.

Have you ever is amazing man, I actually learned on Bass a while ago and hoping to maybe incorporate it in the covers set at some point. Such a great song, it was pretty tough to learn.

I'd not heard of Belle before. She's got something different going on. I remember well when Kurt died. That's a long time ago now. Nirvana had their moment when they shook up the music scene.

Too right man, she's someone I'm keeping an eye on, that's her first original song so I'm sure there's plenty more stuff to come.
