Operation Ivy - TTT

Last week I wrote about Fugazi, and shared a few tunes, and at the end of that post I mentioned and shared a song of Operation Ivy, a band who I hadn't listened to in a good while.

That got me to go back and listen to a few tunes from their album, "Energy" which is a brilliant album, and helped to inspire many different Ska Punk bands that came around after.

Sound System - Operation Ivy

Short and sweet, this song is a bop and a half, and has a nice mixture of Ska, which you can't help put move to, and Punk, which is also hard not to move to.

I've always liked this one, and I think it might have been the first one I heard of this band, which made me seek this album out and listen to what else this band had to offer.

The Crowd - Operation Ivy

"More, just another crowd! We need a gathering instead."

I always liked this one too, and think the instrument that stands out to me in this one, is the sick baseline running through it, and doing its own thing while the drums, and guitar keep the song trucking along.

Smiling - Operation Ivy

I love some good crowd vocals in a song, and this one has some great crowd vocals, and I love the drums doing that, boom boom boom thing during the chorus.

This one is such a short song, but it's effective, and is a lot of fun.

I'd love to potentially cover some Operation Ivy, because I think there are so many great tunes here, and even if the audience weren't particularly into their Ska or Punk, people could still enjoy it.

It's also not crazy, so I think it would go down well in a regular old pub.

Such a great band man, they're one I'd love to have had a chance to see live. One day, maybe they'll do a return tour as a proper send off.
