😭Why You Hate the Sound of Your Voice When Singing (And How to Fix It)đŸ˜đŸŽ”

I went through the same thing too-HERE'S MY STORY

I will never forget the first time I heard my recorded voice on a phone. I pressed play, and the sound that came out made me freeze.

“No way, this isn’t me!” I thought. It sounded strange, so different from what I hear in my head every day. It even felt a little embarrassing.

I assumed there must have been a mistake or maybe I didn’t sing well enough. So, I tried again—a second time. The result was the same.

I gave it a third shot, hoping for something different. Still, it sounded just as strange. After one final attempt, I realized this wasn’t a mistake. I started questioning myself:

Maybe my voice isn’t trained enough.

Maybe I just have a bad voice.

Maybe I’m not ready for this journey.

If you’re feeling the same way right now, maybe after recording your Vibes Web3 Weekly Music Competition video multiple times and still not being satisfied, thinking your voice sounds awkward, bad, or just not good enough—don’t worry.

Here’s what I’ve learned: It’s not about your voice being bad or you not being ready. It’s about growth and self-acceptance. Every great journey begins with small, awkward, and sometimes ugly steps.

Why Do We Dislike Our Recorded Voice?

This feeling is surprisingly common. Singers, musicians, producers—even everyday people—go through it. It all boils down to one thing: the familiar versus the unfamiliar.

The voice you hear when you speak feels familiar—it’s what you’ve always known. But the voice on a recording? That’s unfamiliar. It’s like meeting a stranger who sounds like you but doesn’t feel like you.

Here’s why: When you speak, you’re hearing your voice differently than others do. You’re hearing it as it vibrates through your neck, chest, and head, mixing with the sound bouncing off walls and surfaces around you.

What you hear is a blend of internal and external sounds. But a recording strips all that away. It’s just your raw voice—the way others hear it. The truth? Nothing about your voice has changed. It’s always been that way.

Let’s Make It Real

Imagine you’re cooking a pot of jollof rice and humming your favorite Wizkid song, Ojuelegba. In your head, you sound like a superstar, nailing every note. But then, you record it on your phone and press play.

You pause. “Do I really sound like this?”

Here’s the thing—we’ve all been there. Even Wizkid himself experienced this. When he first started recording music, he wasn’t completely happy with how his voice sounded. It wasn’t the smooth, perfect tone he envisioned.

But did he stop? No. He practiced, made adjustments, and embraced his unique voice. Today, that voice has given us timeless hits we celebrate.

This shows us something important: what feels imperfect to us might be just right for others—if we keep working to improve.

Think About Your Life

Maybe you’re trekking long distances because transport costs are high. Or you’re hustling under the scorching sun to make ends meet. Maybe dinner is just bread and tea because that’s all you can afford.

Life’s struggles might make you question if your efforts, your voice, or even your presence in this world matter. But remember, challenges are not signs of failure—they’re steps in the process**

**Your voice, your effort, and your story are unique. That voice you’re unsure of might one day inspire someone else. The struggles you face today might shape you into someone others admire.

Your voice was given to you to tell your story. It’s completely yours and completely beautiful.

Whether it’s singing, speaking, or simply being yourself, don’t hide it. Share it. Embrace it.

Even if it feels odd or uncertain now, keep practicing. Keep growing. Who knows? Just like Wizkid, your voice might one day bring hope, joy, or comfort to someone else.
