Nine Days of Preparation, One Unforgettable Celebration
Happy Tuesday Hivers!
Yesterday, we celebrated the founding anniversary of the company where I currently work. This is also the reason I haven’t been active in posting for the past two weeks, as I was appointed by top management to spearhead the event. It was the company’s biggest celebration yet, held in honor of our late founder’s birthday.
We were only given a limited time to prepare, just nine working days. It was doable, but it really took away time from my usual daily tasks, like posting on Hive.

Since I was appointed to lead the event, I often went home late because there were so many things to prepare. But if you work in HR, you know your role, to make sure everything is well-prepared, organized, and smooth. That’s why even with little rest, it’s all worth it as long as the event turns out successful.

We prepared a total of ten games, which we divided into easy, moderately difficult, and hard categories. Each game was designed to test communication, critical thinking, and teamwork, the very skills essential in the workplace.

My boss didn’t want the event to be purely about celebration, like eating and drinking. He wanted it to serve a double purpose, to also function as a team-building activity. And honestly, that made sense since it helped minimize expenses while still creating a meaningful experience for everyone.

I didn’t really struggle with the nine working days given to us because the committees showed great initiative. Aside from that, they gave their full support to the HR department, which made everything manageable despite the limited time.

I’m really happy with how the event turned out because everything went smoothly, from registration all the way until the end of the program. I was also glad that everyone got to eat early, and there was even extra food left for those who stayed to drink afterward. I didn’t hear any complaints about late meals or food shortages, which made me even more satisfied with the outcome.

While the activity was ongoing, some were already drinking, so a few got tipsy even during the games. During the break, everyone started dancing on the floor. Since our employees are a mix of both young and older ones, we chose music from the ’80s and ’90s, something the younger ones could still relate to, but the older ones would surely enjoy. In the end, even the older employees had fun dancing and joining the crowd.

I got a bit worried about some employees who continued drinking, especially knowing that some of them still had to drive home afterward. As the head of the committee, I requested that those who were already drunk should not be allowed to drive. Instead, we made sure they were brought home safely to avoid any accidents.

I immediately messaged our group chat to check if everyone got home safely. I just wanted to make sure everything was okay because I can’t help but worry that something bad might happen to someone after the event.

Seeing the employees genuinely enjoying themselves already felt like a big achievement for HR. No matter how exhausting it was, everything was truly worth it.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
