Our house...in the middle of a street

A while back a friend of mine of was emigrating to the Netherlands from the Caribbean islands asked me if I had any suggestions for housing here in the Netherlands.

My first reaction to this was asking in what region in the Netherlands this should be. After all, the Netherlands is a small country, but not that small. It does make a difference where you are located and making a daily effort to travel across the country on the daily is not really an easy thing here as well.

But actually that thought of mine of that you have a lot of choice and influence on where you want to be located is not even the most fair one. Housing is a big issue in the Netherlands, and this is not something that will be resolved on the short term.

Adults who are still living in with their parents above a certain age, people trying to split houses. It is all of this time and especially starting out somewhere is a gigantic challenge. And with that I am not even mentioning on what housing is currently costing. In terms of renting a house or even buying a house. Those prices have almost seem to have risen to some magical statusses our of the reach of the normal person.

I also have a feeling that with the current troubles in the world that this won't get easier any time soon. Mortgage prices don't seem to drop and that means landlords are also not dropping meaning the rent is not dropping.

And together with that also this article reached the light of day here that again the prices of houses have gone up again in the whole country.

And sure...sometimes it seems like the students are also forgetting that we also started in some room somewhere, split with others. Or in some kind of shady apartment where the word 'clean' would have a liquid meaning and everyone would interpret it different. Those guys now want a full house all by themselves and that is even more of a challenge or better said: a mirage not happening.

But someone who just has a job and just needs a place to stay, not even in the city centre...but anywhere out of there and just a 1 or a 2 bedroom apartment. Heck, nothing feels available at the moment.

So I was feeling for my friend who had just relocated to here. Because starting off in a new country already isn't easy and also have the housing situation there with ya. That stuff surely isn't helping.

And when I am biking through the city centre of Eindhoven I see a lot of high rises being built, like a lot and the skyline of the city will look very different in the upcoming years. But that is not finished today already. But people still need houses today.

I don't have the answers to all of this, I was just feeling for my friend. And the whole time writing this song the song of Madness was passing by in my brain 'Our House'. Just an ordinary song for ordinary people. People who want the same... Stability and some stimulating fun tunes in the background.

Yup housing truly remains Madness here as well.
