Music and culture are deeply fused aspects of human society. Music often reflects and shapes cultural norms, values, and traditions. It serves as a medium for expressing emotions, beliefs, and stories unique to a particular society or community. Across different cultures, music plays different roles, such as in rituals, social gatherings, festivals, entertainment and ceremonies.

I am from the Yoruba tribe in Nigeria and we definitely have traditional genres of music such as the Apala,Fuji, and juju.

. Apala music: It has been in existence for long since the early 90s. It can also be called akpala. It was a song that was most popular by the Muslims in Nigeria. Musiliu Haruna Ishola who is now late made Apala music very popular so he is regarded as the pioneer of the music. Apala music was mostly played in muslim parties ,such as their burial ceremonies, weddings ,naming ceremony or for the installation of a new cleric or a clergyman. Musiliu Harun ishola made apala music popular through is song titled "Opon Apala ti sun" which is still listened to till this very day. You can listen to it here :

It's a genre of music that is not very popular now but there is a musician who still sings this genre of music in Nigeria , his name is Terry Apala.

.Fuji music :This is the most popular genre of music in my culture now. There is no yoruba traditional party you will go that they won't be playing fuji music and it's always a vibe. Fuji music was introduced by Sikiru Ayinde barrister who is now dead but his legacy still lives on. Fuji music was initially known as "ajisari"which was a genre of music that was used to wake the Muslims up for "sari" . "Sari" is what we the yorubas do call the food Muslims do eat before they start their fasting for the day. It was obviously made use of during the period of Ramadan before it now became the fuji music that we all know now. This genre of music is now used in burial ceremonies, festivals, weddings, social gatherings. We have alot of oustanding fuji musicians such as

Wasiu Ayinde who is also known as "K1 de ulitimate". He is the biggest fuji musician at the moment , any party at all you invite him and his band and you will dance and spray money till daybreak. There is also the likes of Adewale Ayuba,Alabi Pasuna, Taye currency to mention but a few. Even wizkid had to call wasiu ayinde for his mum's burial because he was just the best at his job.

.Juju music : This is also another genre of music that is poplar in my culture at the moment. The king of juju music is King Sunny ade who is very known but home and abroad . He just has a different way of singing and bringing smiles to people's faces. He is someone you will listen to and just start dancing and move your body. He is 77 years old but he can still shake and move his body like a young lad. He is just a a rare gem. He was the first Nigerian to be nominated for grammy award . He had two nominations but didn't win any but still it was something to be proud of. We definitely also have some other musicians who sing juju like Shina Peters .

Ebenezer obe is also another iconic juju musician who is now old and doesn't sing anymore. He sang alot of inspirational songs back then and was also popularly known then for his song " The horse,The man and The son" this was obviously a song about the way humans beings behave.

Talking about the impact of lyrics, this song " The horse ,The man and and The son" had alot of powerful lyrics.

**"Ko s'ogbon to le da ko si wa to le wu
Ko si ona ti o le mo to le fi t'aye lorun o" This lyrics says there is nothing you can do or means you can device to make people become satisfied.

To ba lo si party nibi ti won je igbadun
To ba ni ki loo mu lo ba ni Coca-Cola won ni ko maye je jedi-jedi lo ma pa
To ba lo si party nibi ti won je igbadun
To ba ni ki loo mu lo ba ni Coca-Cola won ni ko maye je jedi-jedi lo ma pa

"To ba tun je oga oni faaji to n j'aye dede
Champagne pelu Schnapps ti o fi n yonu
Heineken beer Star lager Top beer
Becks beer pelu Guinness gbogbo re l'oba l'ara mu
Awon eda Adamo won fun l'oruko
Oti l'alakori f'owo re mu " The lyrics implies that if a man attends a party and decides to take coke people would say he doesn't know how to party and diarrhoea is what will lead to his death but if he still decides to take champagne together with schnapps Heineken and other type of beers they will still criticise him and say he just spends more money on alcohol and nothing else.**

The general song has a very deep meaning and powerful lyrics and it's just a song that says and advice people to always do what pleases them or make them happy and not try to please others or try to do what others want from them because you can never satisy everyone or make everyone happy. So just be you and do you at all times.

The impact the lyrics of the song holds is just memorable and great and you can listen to the song here :

This is my participation to the #juneinleo challenge for day 26 which says Music and culture,Traditional music and impact of lyrics.

Thanks for reading.
