I wil go for jamming genres anyday...
This week’s #AfriTunes topic really got me thinking about something I’ve personally gone back and forth with—choosing between default tones and using actual songs as my phone’s ringtone. I’ve tried both before, and honestly, my experience with them has made it clear which one I prefer to have for my mobile device.
First off, let me talk about default ringing tones. I’m not a fan, at all. They’re just always bland. Most of them sound robotic, repetitive, and, after a while, they become very annoying. There’s no vibe or personality to them. I mean, when your phone rings, you should feel at least a little excited, right? But with those default tones, it’s just this unpleasant noise that makes you rush to answer it so it can just stop ringing. So yeah, I definitely don’t vibe with default ringtones.
Now, when it comes to using actual songs as ringing tones, it’s a whole different story. I love music most especially the ones with fast beats and good rhythms.
When I set a song I love as my ringtone, it immediately makes me smile. It's like my phone is on the same page with me, playing something I actually want to hear instead of those lifeless default sounds. For instance, having a track like “Billions” by Lojay as my ringtone just puts me in a good mood every time my phone rings. I’m all about music that can get me moving or lift my spirits, and when my ringtone does that for me, it’s a win.
With that being said, there’s one little problem i have experienced with using a song as a ringtone, and that’s when it starts causing confusion. I’ve had moments where I didn’t realize I was getting a call because the song playing as my ringtone was already playing in the background. Imagine “Train Wreck” is your ringtone, and you’re listening to it on Spotify when a call comes through. I’ve been in that situation, and I ended up missing the call because I thought the song was just looping. It’s kind of funny when you think about it, but also a bit annoying because you don’t even notice the call until you look at your phone. So, yeah, that’s one of the drawback of using a song as your ringtone.
But honestly, even with that minor issue, I’d still go for a jamming genre over any default ringing tone, any day. Music is just too important to me. It’s my mood booster, my escape from stress the one that makes me feel relieved and energized.
I just don’t want to keep on listening to some default sounds that are not always soothing to my ears. I want to hear something that lifts my spirits, something that makes me forget my worries even if it’s just for few seconds. That’s why I will always go for songs that makes me feel good and excited, and not those ones that would put me in deep thoughts and bring back sad memories.
At the end of the day, happiness is found in the small things, like a good song. So for me, when it comes to ringing tones, music will always win. It’s just another simple way to bring a little joy into my everyday life.
