Deep Dives Into Adversity and Inspiration | A Mixed Media Art Project Alien Art Hive's INKTOBER PROMPT [#13-Rise]
In response to the Alien Art Hive Community's Inktober Prompts that were part of their Cosmic Creations Edition #6 Contest, Cosmic Creations Edition #6 is LIVE: INKTOBER PROMPTS, members were encouraged to choose a prompt theme from the Inktober Prompts list for their entry into the contest.
After my entry into the contest with Prompt #17 - DEMON which I published on 9/23, I decided to take the Inktober concept one step further. I will focus on the remaining 30 Prompts on the list, beginning with Prompt #1. How fun the themes will be preparing my projects utilizing the mixed media art themes. If a Drabble story (100 words) or other flash fiction emerges, then all the more fun!
Below is my project for Inktober Prompt #13:
Adversity. It is an experience that affects individuals at some period in their lives. It is universal. It is sometimes heartbreaking to go through the situation.
Many people suffer in this world. Some ailments are known. Others are not. When I think of the poverty that is visited upon multitudes, especially children, I can't help but cry. Oh, if I could solve the problem that appears to be so deep-routed in our society it is not fixable. Otherwise, a solution would have surfaced.
But afflictions such as physical can be devastating. I remember over then ago, I contemplated having back surgery. The pain was excruciating to the point that I could barely walk. I had to make a decision.
Were it not for my husband urging me to believe in myself, the power of healing, and his steadfast support for whatever decision I made, I don't believe I would have gone through with the procedure. This was especially true after hearing the horrid consequences of back surgeries gone wrong.
Thankfully, through a referral, my surgeon was on the board of a major hospital in the Medical Center in our city. He was an excellent orthopaedic spine surgeon with years of experience. My surgery on the lower part of my spine at L4 and L5 turned out wonderfully.
The important aspect of adversity is to believe in yourself and your capabilities.
Second, remember that if there is someone that you share your life with who can comfort and care for you during times of adversity, whether financial, emotional, spiritual, mental, physical, or social, you may be able to rise above the situation. You may eventually overcome it.

Andra Day 1
My approach to this theme was to present a situation where one is unsure of how to proceed or what to do. Utilizing the elements of water, rising to the top is sometimes essential to maintain life. Placing an obstruction in the path of a sea creature, it still managed to rise to the top. Pure survival instincts. The essence is that there is adversity in humans and all manner of animals for survival.
The star of my project are two awesome pure fractals I recently created in the advanced version of the fractal rendering program, Apophysis 7X. Other images that added the dramatic effect to the scene is the shark image and an underwater image.
To blend the images, I again use my design program, Canva. I start with a blank, white canvas. Below are my steps, from left to right:
I switched the canvas color to black.
Resized the ocean scene to fit entire canvas.
Duplicated the clouds and resized to full.
Added the shark.
Added the underwater scene.
Added the cloud fractal.
Added the obstruction fractal at the bottom.
Removed shark background. Flipped. Resized.

Hello @deeanndmathews. I'm pleased that my project was perceived as such. It was the main focus I was hoping for. When choosing a song to accompany the theme, I immediately thought of Andra Day's "I'll Rise". It was perfect, I think.
Sometimes I don't realize initially how my fractals will affect other art types when combined.

What a touching song and video! This line in the lyrics says it all. We need faith and hope to rise up a thousand times because adversities will keep coming as long as we are breathing. It's easy to pity the woman carrying for her invalid man 24-7 but the smile on her face is a lesson. She takes care of the man delightfully and does not see the situation as a burden. A positive mental attitude goes a long way.
Your short piece is inspiring and reveals that we are never alone in any adversity. The most important thing is to never give up. And yes, support is everything! I'm thankful you had your husband with you through the back issue. I think I breathed a sigh of relief when I read that the surgery was successful. Back pain is no small or flimsy medical issue.

Hello @kemmyb. You know what you say is true. It is easy to pity the spouse or other person in a relationship where the other party is dependent upon that person for home healthcare. It can be exhausting and weary to the mind and heart. The strength to keep going through adversity is nothing compared to the person who is afflicted. I truly admire the couple. Giving up doesn't appear to be an option.
My short piece was just my input into a small issue I faced years ago with my impending surgery. Assurance from my spouse helped me overcome the nervousness. Knowing that he would be by my side through adversity was all I needed to heal with the help of God holding my spine together.
I'm pleased you liked my mixed media art project. The shark is rising out of impediments at the bottom of the water attempting to keep it down. I also appreciate your support, engagement and kind compliment for my project.
