El pasado 6 de julio fue la fecha de muerte del gran músico, específicamente trompetista, y cantante estadounidense de jazz, Louis Armstrong, ocurrida en 1971. Fue un grande, sin duda. Hoy lo seguimos escuchando y deleitándonos con su ritmo, voz de timbre y cadencia muy singular, y su magnífica ejecución de la trompeta. Con este post quiero rendirle un modesto tributo.

July 6 marked the anniversary of the death of the great American jazz musician, specifically trumpeter and singer, Louis Armstrong, who passed away in 1971. He was undoubtedly a great. Today, we continue to listen to him and delight in his rhythm, his unique voice and cadence, and his magnificent trumpet playing. With this post, I want to pay him a modest tribute.

Son muchas las interpretaciones queridas de “Satchmo”, ese “enormísimo cronopio”, como lo llamara el escritor Julio Cortázar (aquí el enlace de un post que le dedicara hace unos años). Escogí tres de las que más me gustan.

No podría faltar la más emblemática, quizás: “What A Wonderful World”, de 1967, tantas veces cantada por diferentes artistas y compartida y tarareada con amigos en muchas ocasiones.

I chose three of my favorites.

I couldn't leave out perhaps the most emblematic one: “What A Wonderful World,” from 1967, sung so many times by different artists and shared and hummed with friends on many occasions.
