Three Tune Tuesday – Tres canciones del gran músico pop, Phil Collins (Esp | Eng)

En estos días venían nuevamente a mi afecto las canciones de Phil Collins, a propósito de su fecha de cumpleaños (30 de enero de 1951). Cantante, compositor, instrumentista de la batería y el piano, sin duda, uno de los músicos más importantes de la segunda mitad del siglo XX y de lo que va de este.

Comencé a escucharlo y prestarle atención a comienzos de la década de los 80, cuando yo entraba en la llamada “adultez temprana”. Más joven, había sido un seguidor del grupo “Génesis”, pues el “rock sinfónico” fue uno de los subgéneros que más me interesó de “la música que estremeció al mundo”, como decía el productor y locutor de nuestra radio, Alfredo Escalante, para referirse al rock. A ese grupo se incorporaría luego Phil Collins, y en él estuvo hasta su despedida en 2022.

Pero las canciones que más marcaron mi vida fueron las que hizo como artista fuera de grupo, en solitario. Conservo sus discos en CDs, que suelo escuchar cada cierto tiempo, “Serious Hits” (1990) y “Bod sides” (1993). Sus canciones siguen produciendo en mí una gran emoción afectiva.

Luego de haber sabido de su retiro, y verlo en fotos y videos afectado por las dolencias de su columna y manos, a una edad ya avanzada (los 75 años), es hora de rendirle un homenaje, a mi manera modesta.

Seguidamente, compartiré tres de sus canciones más queridas por mí. ¡Son tantas, que es difícil escoger! Al final podrán acceder a sus letras en inglés y español.

Three songs by the great pop musician, Phil Collins

These days, the songs of Phil Collins have come back to me, especially in light of his birthday (January 30, 1951). Singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist on drums and piano, he is undoubtedly one of the most important musicians of the second half of the 20th century and so far in this one.

I began listening to him and paying attention to him in the early 1980s, when I was entering what's known as "early adulthood." When I was younger, I had been a fan of the band Genesis, since "symphonic rock" was one of the subgenres that most interested me within "the music that shook the world," as Alfredo Escalante, the producer and announcer on our radio station, used to say when referring to rock. Phil Collins later joined that group, and he remained with it until his departure in 2022.

But the songs that most impacted my life were those he created as a solo artist. I still have his albums on CD, which I listen to from time to time: “Serious Hits” (1990) and “Bod Sides” (1993). His songs continue to evoke a deep emotional response in me.

After learning of his retirement, and seeing him in photos and videos suffering from back and hand problems at an advanced age (75), it's time to pay tribute to him, in my own modest way.
