Three Tune Tuesday – Tres amadas canciones de Norah Jones (Esp - Eng)

Norah Jones es una de mis cantantes favoritas desde comienzos de este siglo, tan problemático y febril, como diría el tango de Discépolo. Considero que es una cantante, compositora e instrumentista especial.

Cómo llegué a ella, no lo recuerdo. Seguramente ha debido ser por esas búsquedas que aleatoriamente nos permitían encontrar cantantes y grupos de interés para mí. En ese tiempo no existía YouTube ni ninguna otra red de aplicación musical.

Conocerla ha sido, como me ha ocurrido con Sarah McLachlan y Loreena McKennitt, una bendición, pues su música me ha acompañado desde entonces, especialmente en momentos de quietud y de emociones nostálgicas o tristes.

Supe luego, lo que me sorprendió gratamente, que era hija de Ravi Shankar, músico indio, ejecutor del sitar, que escuchaba ya por mi gusto de la música oriental.

La hermosa y cadenciosa voz de Norah Jones, como pocas en los últimos tiempos, así como su estilo que combina el blues, el jazz y el pop, me han arrobado. Aunque cuando la escuchaba inicialmente no tenía conocimiento en español de las letras de sus canciones, luego pude corroborar lo que intuía: su fuerza lírica.

Quiero compartir con ustedes ese gusto, que, seguramente, ya existe en muchos, a través de tres canciones favoritas de esta artista.

Norah Jones has been one of my favorite singers since the beginning of this century—a time as "troubled and feverish" as Discépolo’s tango would describe it. I consider her to be a truly special singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist.

I don't recall exactly how I first discovered her. It must surely have happened through those random searches that, back then, allowed us to stumble upon singers and bands that piqued our interest. At that time, neither YouTube nor any other social network or music app existed yet.

Discovering her—much like my experiences with Sarah McLachlan and Loreena McKennitt—has been a true blessing; her music has been my constant companion ever since, particularly during moments of quiet contemplation or when I am feeling nostalgic or melancholic.

I later learned—to my delightful surprise—that she is the daughter of Ravi Shankar, the Indian sitar virtuoso whose music I had already been listening to out of my own personal fondness for Eastern music.

Norah Jones’s beautiful, lilting voice—a rarity in recent times—along with her unique style, which blends elements of blues, jazz, and pop, has utterly captivated me. Although I didn't have access to Spanish translations of her lyrics when I first started listening to her, I was later able to confirm what I had intuitively sensed all along: the sheer lyrical power of her work.

I would like to share this passion with you—a passion that, I am sure, many of you already share—by presenting three of my favorite songs by this remarkable artist.
