THAT MOMENT SINGING IN YOUR CLOSET CHANGES TO SINGING BEFORE A LARGE CROWD?
Do you have an idea how it feels?
Well, I do!
Rehearsals are necessary to perfect a song, and the first thing is to always be in attendance. I belong to a church choir, so I'm used to the pattern of having choir rehearsals every weekend.
After learning the song with everyone, the song becomes a part of me till the day we minister the song finally—most times it even continues to be a part of me.
In my room, in the kitchen, while in the shower, etc. I just keep singing the song I learned.
Then came the moment I had rehearsed for!
I had a solo part to take in the song, and I hadn't mastered a particular progression in the song where a perfect note changes to a minor note and back to the original. I actually knew the dynamics, but I just had to be sure that I was not going to change the minor note to an off-key one.
I'm not the lead singer, of course, so you must be thinking why I had so much panic. Well, for the fact that I'll be singing a solo in front of the crowd, it just made me have cold feet a bit.
The choir was called, and we all stood up and marched gorgeously down to the elevated platform to minister.
On getting there, I realized that it was actually a great crowd of witnesses, ready to witness God's glory and with my voice?
The song had the tempo of typical gospel jazz, the one Kirk Franklin was known for years ago. I moved left and right in sync with the song's tempo.
We started by harmonising the famous,
"Melodies from heaven!
Rain down on me! Rain down on me! ..." By Kirk Franklin.
The rest of the song was composed by my choir, and I was so eager to sing my part and put an end to my racing heart.
This is my part! I grabbed the mic firmly and placed it at 180°, slightly away from my lips. The very moment I pitched the first word, all the fear and panic faded away.
I just knew then that confidence is an antidote to the adrenaline-sponsored stage fright.
Once you hit it with confidence, it's like an adverse effect—and then before your eyes, you will see self-doubt creep away. I sang my heart out, and I loved every bit of it.
I sang so much that the lead singer got carried away, not remembering he was meant to take over at some point.
This is the exact motivation you need to take that action with huge confidence, no matter what! Then when you see how well it went, you'll know that all you needed to do was BE CONFIDENT!!
