Today I'm going to share with you a project that I had the opportunity to carry out in the field of dance (Performing Arts) in the development of a project called "O Canto do Beija-Flor" for the Brazilian dance company, Cia de Danca Reverence. The following text includes an explanation of the project and a sequence of photographs that I was able to take under different scenarios and proposals.

Reverence Studio de Dança LTDA is masterfully led by Karla Parmagnani, who demonstrates skillful and dedicated management. Furthermore, the commitment of all dancers has been fundamental to the continued success of Cia Reverence de Dança's activities, since its foundation in July 2015 to the present day.

The primary idea behind the construction of this project was due to the construction that the reverence dance company received for the International Festival "Costa Rica es Danza & Baile, Puente entre Culturas" (2022)

The "Canto do Beija-flor" project was developed to represent not only Brazilian culture, but also Espírito Santo culture, incorporating elements such as Congo, for example, through dance.

I always like to take photos in movements such as surfing, birds, or nature, however recording the moment of dance is a little different, the steps, with the music and the time between each choreography must be taken into consideration, in order to get the best shot.

Before participating in the Festival, preparatory workshops were held with:

  • Master Domingos do Congo,

  • Yuri Satellite with Dança de Passinho.

  • In addition to the Preparatory Workshop, Cia Reverence de Dança promoted a Live Online with Professional Dancer Franciny Dias, highlighting traditional and popular dances, providing a more in-depth look at the culture of Espírito Santo.

  • Live Online with Marco Bravo: August 29, 2022, a live was held with biologist and professor Marco Bravo. Let's explore their inspirations and contributions to the dissemination of knowledge about our environmental riches. The focus of the conversation will be the work of Augusto Ruschi and other sources of inspiration that enrich our understanding and care for natural resources.

Honor the kindness of the managers of this beautiful project, for trusting in our potential to be able to share a little of Brazilian culture through our art.
Let's bring joy, dance and representation.

From there, the project was born: O Canto do Beija-flor.🕊️

The Hummingbird is a bird with a historical presence in our State, Espírito Santo (the object of research for many years by Augusto Rusci), and comes with a very strong meaning... it is the symbol of romantic love, grace, joy, healing , luck and softness. This lightness comes from a complexity of needs for functioning, just as it works in the world of dance.

It didn't take long for Canto do Beija-Flor to take on other proportions, due to the good performance in Costa Rica, and contact made with friends from other countries such as Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Argentina, Cia Reverence de Dança received the honorable invitation to participate in the XIII Celebra Danzar Festival in Medellín, Colombia, through email and invitation letter, based on cultural indications in Brazil.

The project "Canto do Beija-flor" grew, had more completion and became "O Canto do Beija-flor, Na Trama no Brasil" developed to represent not only Brazilian culture, but also Espírito Santo culture, incorporating elements such as Congo , for example, and all this with global language, through dance and movements.

Cia de Dança Reverence delves into Capixaba/Brazilian culture, seeking to understand and incorporate the elementary movements that define it. One of the most fascinating objects in our research is the ''Hummingbird'', an inspiration for creating fluid, graceful and energetic movements.

By sharing these movements with our brothers from other countries, we transcend cultural borders and unite different traditions through dance. The application of Beija-flor's movements in our choreographies seeks to promote a rich experience, involving the public in a unique journey of discovery and emotion.

In each performance, we celebrate diversity and unity between cultures, showing how dance can be a powerful means of expression and human connection. Transcending barriers, establishing a universal dialogue that respects and values differences.

At the beginning of last month, February 2024, the ‘Canto do Beija-flor’ project continues to unfold its wings, now reaching new horizons in state territories.

We are thrilled to take our art to the beautiful landscapes of the north of the State of ES, in Itaúnas and Conceição da Barra. Join us to experience moments of magic and movement, with exciting performances and enriching dance workshops.

I was able to have the honor of once again accompanying the company in this event, as well as recording some of the impactful moments of the trip to the interior of Espirito Santo in the Far North, on the border with the State of Bahia.

On the first day in Vila de Itaunas, the dancers prepared themselves, rehearsing both outdoors and indoors, aiming for perfection of the choreography and fluidity of movements, which would come the following day, divided into 3 different places.

  • Paulo César Vinha Settlement is a settlement of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) located near Vila de Itaúnas. According to information from resident and member of the Women's Association, Maria da Penha de Abreu, the community is home to 63 families, each of which has the right to 8.5 hectares for agricultural exploration. In this settlement, whose installation dates back to 1996, all settlers have an occupation title.

Currently the community lives basically from agriculture, mainly from the cultivation of coconut, passion fruit, papaya, cassava, corn, beans, coffee and pepper. The priority in the settlement, in addition to obtaining inputs for production, is to obtain technical assistance for small producers and projects that enable alternative income. In the settlement there is the Paulo Vinha Rural Women's Association (AMURPV) which was created to manufacture sweets and jams, and to hold some courses for the women of the association.

  • Associacao Pestalozzi Conceicao da Barra, Pestalozzi is a philanthropic, free and non-profit entity, which works to care for special people, mentally disabled and with multiple disabilities, all over the age of 21.

The institution's mission is "To contribute to improving the quality of life through actions that value human beings", with the goal of inclusion and participation of people with disabilities, through their recognition as citizens and the educational and clinical care according to each person’s potential. Work developed by the Pestalozzi Association of Conceição da Barra, greatly contributes for the human and social development of people with disabilities who reside in the municipality, with a view to training active, conscious people, preparing them for the exercise of citizenship.

To this end, Pestalozzi's work in the area of Social Assistance, has a team of professionals made up of a pedagogue, Social Educator, Social Worker and Physical Educator, with specific training and having support from some health professionals such as physiotherapy and occupational therapists. Amazing project.

The institution is managed by an Executive Board, a Fiscal Council and a
Administrative Council, in which all members are volunteers, elected by direct vote, in the General Assembly.

  • Café Brasil, takes place in a village with dirt floors, sea with natural pools, river to cool off, long and calm conversations, all year round. But in July, when the festival takes place, the city is transformed, the number of people quadruples and the village becomes a meeting point to celebrate the lining and the bonds it provided, be it friends, dances or love.

Ana Paula Dias & Barbara Veronez, Roda do Coco

Since 2001, CAFÉ BRASIL has been the go-to meeting place for forrozeiros from all over the world, a date to share the love of forro and life with friends. We are a strong and faithful community, the forrozeira nation grows every year and is consolidated with each festival.

We differentiate ourselves from other parties because we have a philosophy of equality, here there is no champagne with fireworks and no VIP area. democracy, autonomy and the emancipation of the subject are preached. We are equal and we respect each other for that reason, dance teaches us to understand the other's body and thus awakens empathy in us.

IMG_3996.jpeg

The work of Cia de Danca reverence was carried out over 3 days, where the first day was an interaction in Parque de Itaunas, community experience, on the second day followed by these 3 presentations, where the dancers provided different choreographies, such as singing, and diffusion of elementary cultures of Brazilian dance, such as capoeira, forró, roda de coco.
1000038451.jpeg

On the last day of the trip, 2 different workshops were held, 1 on Classical Ballet by Karla Parmagnani for children, and 1 on Rhythm Body, by Barbara Veronez, where there were different styles of people present.

It was very beautiful to do part of this, to build thinking in international terms, other countries, other cultures, and end up where part of the team of dancers was born and raised, in the interior of the state, in a simple village but rich in nature, culture and history.

It was incredible to see Maestra Karla's dynamics with the children who participated in the classical ballet class in the village of Itaúnas. Many of those children already had a soft spot due to typical local dances, such as capoeira. The Itaunas park is incredible, it has a wealth of fauna and flora and a past worthy of being studied. Surrounded by sand dunes, the primary village years ago was completely buried by sand, due to natural changes in the location, and today there is a new village. Archaeologists went there to explore, and as a bonus they found art created by the local people. I recommend that you come to Espirito Santo to visit the Itaunas Park.

Dance is the elegant matrix that makes us connect with life.

I hope you enjoyed this text, I've wanted to share with you my work in the performing arts for some time now, so here it is. See you next time folks.

Nothing great is created suddenly, just as you won't get far without a tribe. So, we could mention many names here to pay tribute to those who participated in the execution of this project and how they added value to its completion. Special thanks:

Karla Parmagnani, Ana Paula Dias, Franciny Dias, Barbara Veronez, Lua Couto, Yuri Satélite, Danzar Antioquia Medellin, Itaúnas City Hall, Conceição da Barra City Hall, Secretariat of the State of Espírito Santo, Pasion Cultural, João Pedro Lirio, Mestre Domingos, Bernardo Firme, among others excellent professionals and friends who both support and support the reverence dance company.
