Thrilling Nights Live In Durban

Hitch Back In Time With Music Live Groups Durban

Dr Alban and Haddaway played at the Village Green early 1990s. Dr Alban is famous for his worldwide 1992 hit It’s My Life, while Haddaway is best known for his 1993 hit single What Is Love.

Before the end of apartheid if I remember correctly, Winter month making it July/August, with one sick son (with a cold,) both boys would not hear about us cancelling their first live music concert.

Bundled up warm with hats and jackets we drove into Durban to spend a brilliant evening under the 'big top', (large tent with canvas walls) not very well attended by the locals. A night to remember for the few who arrived, Dr Alban and Haddaway gave us the treat of a lifetime, happy and energized we returned home.

DR ALBAN - IT'S MY LIFE - 1992

Concert a warm balmy Durban late Summer, phoned some friends meeting up for a great night out once again. Well attended even bumping into people we had not seen for ages. Night under the stars thumping to Phil's concert.

Phil Collins concert at Kings Park Stadium, Durban, South Africa on March 19, 1995, one to share with great memories shared with people we grew up with.

Phil Collins Cant turn back the years Live Southafrica 95 (Johannesburg sadly not Durban)

Michael Jackson at Kings Park Stadium, Durban, South Africa on October 15, 1997.

Another fantastic night on the town as a family, no matter the man the music is sensational.

Jonathan (Sugarfoot) Moffett the drummer of MJ for 30 years appears to have recorded the video, awesome show electrifying lighshow, dance performance superb, no one could complain about quality entertainment.

Random Info - Always More.... Not part of #TTT

'Africa' was written by Toto members David Paich and Jeff Porcaro
Paich explained that the song is about a man’s love of a continent, Africa, rather than being about a personal romance. He based the lyrics on a late night documentary with depictions of African plight and suffering. The viewing experience made a lasting impact on Paich: "It both moved and appalled me, and the pictures just wouldn’t leave my head. I tried to imagine how I’d feel about it if I was there and what I’d do." Source

Toto - Africa

Rich in culture, history, mineral resources yet still live with struggles, poverty and political unrest, no wonder this song tugs at the very being of anyone who has roamed our Continent.

Well how are we, more in the dark! Loadshedding (Power Outages/Black Outs) call it what you may we switched off more, hence late reply, apologies!

Music keeps ones mind balanced listening to what others offer and going back remembering the great events we were able to see here.

Thanks for visiting and have yourself a wonderful day!

Had a great introduction to the world of live bands, it captured my sons.

In 2006 again in 2013 they traveled up to Johannesburg (568km/353ml) live METALLICA show for a night. My brother did the same 1995, Rolling Stones concert, many bands never arrived in Durban, visiting Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Great nights out, each totally different vibe!

I really like Michael Jackon's Billie Jean. I've not ever heard a live version of it, though. He really did have a lot of energy in his concerts. Damn.

Interestingly, Weezer covered both Toto's Africa and Michael Jackson's Billie Jean on their teal album (and album of all covers). It's one of my favourite of their albums.

Seeing live in concert is such a treat, all have a distinct feel to the night.

Did not know this was covered by Weezer, many songs you hear in shows are a remix or remastered, I often say the band and song name plus approximate year it was a hit to my sons, they always check if my memory is not failing.... not yet! !LOLZ

Music feeds the soul not so, the best medicine for a sore heart!
I can just imagine your boys being determined not to miss out, probably felt worse than they let out. Awesome memories Joan!
Durban often missed out on seeing big artists live, and one that I really wanted to go to, was The Eagles, but having to travel to Joburg and pay for tickets was just too much!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

It was fun introducing the boys to live music, little one was really sick and bundled up. Many artists didn't arrive here, we missed many that my brother got to see at the Japanese gardens in the evenings being closer to town. Happy Monday and take care!
