Running Through My Life

So pretty young back then when Small Faces made amazing tunes, how they never became well known like the Beatles or Rolling Stones no one knows. Each time I go back to the 1960s or 1970s, music still brings a spirited life back, as one felt in our early teens.

Not sure how many think back to the music, the fun that must have been had going out as a teenagers popping into a local pub, being entertained by live bands! Oh we some in our city, not as many as London Town.

Songs that I remember which led up to purchases their LP when they got together in 1977 still in my collection, working now I was able to splash out now and then to buy an LP. Playmates which was pertinent as mostly new songs influenced this their fourth and I think last reunion where members of other bands also joined in, those days everyone was in for a good session mixing. Sadly no one realized Ronnie Lane started to show symptoms of multiple sclerosis leaving abruptly after first rehearsal, unbeknownst to other members, who thought it a drunken tantrum.

Steve Marriot went on to start Humble Pie another good band to visit when you have time. My three picks this week all a tribute to this band who still gets cranked up with teenage zest as it did back then, now the stories come out with my sons and the days of our lives being young!

"Lazy Sunday"

My Mind’s Eye (With lyrics that open ones mind to life.)
Song by Small Faces

I sit here every day looking at the sky
Ever wondering why I dream my dreams away
And I'm living for today in my mind's eye

Things are clearer than before
Showing me the way, asking me to stay
I'll never close the door
To all these things and more
In my mind's eye

Everybody I know says I've changed, yeah
Laughing behind their hands
I think they're strange

People running everywhere
Running through my life
I couldn't give a care,
Because they'll never see
All that I can see with my mind's eye

We come and go the thread of time is short, should be more humour in the world where everyone enjoys life, not the cock and bull we get dished up all to often of late.

Shadows of the past will always sneak up on me like the butterfly in the morning light, last thing on my mind is never listening to music!

Many bands influenced our thinking with words in lyrics, always enjoyed these guys. Glad to hear you have heard them at least once in a lifetime, they were able to have loads of fun.

When you spoke of The Small Faces I was curious, could not remember them, but immediately recognized the songs. I agree with you that it's strange that they did not become as popular as The Beatles etc. Likely because of Ronnie Lane's MS.
Nice listening to music of our younger years!

So much music arrived back then, each group of friends varied in influence or finding something well worthwhile listening to.

Never having much excess cash in hand often bought our taste, as a group of friends we went from home to home to enjoy each persons collection in music, almost a done thing back then.

Same here, it was a luxury having your own LP, we'd often do a borrow-swop, a good way to make sure no-one forgot to return.
I had pop and classics, from one extreme to the other!
I could kick myself for throwing my little collection out, did that a couple of years ago before they came back into vogue😒
Our voting station wasn't too hectic, got my mark just now.
All is calm for now, till the politicians start instigating unrest!

We used to enjoy visiting each others homes listening to music, many had back room flats converted by the parents to avoid the noise....

Spent many hours listening to new releases in Jo'burg music shops, booths at the back with headphones. After listening to a track or more, pop over the road to coffee bar meet-up spot, discuss and decide to buy or not, a monthly event!

I still have our full collection very carefully packed away, need to sort and sell in pre-loved store for sure.

Vote went smoothly here, went down midday beautiful sunny day too! Snow possibly arriving next week from the 2nd, more than likely with loadshedding and all our other favourite things like unrest....

You were wise, keeping your collection! You may just be sitting on gold there. I read an article about the astronomical value of limited editions of some old LPs. It was interesting to see the reasons why they stopped printing them.
Our voting also went smoothly, my gardener and I went after lunch, it was in and out.
Yep, waiting for loadshedding to start again!
I wish the weather could stay as it is now, just perfect 👌

I did a diary of each LP in the collection over the years when purchasing, never had the heart to sell off as they are in fantastic condition.

Now the waiting game to see how everything went, hopefully no skulduggery along the line!

Weather has been superb!
