Masterpiece - You Decide!
Music Knows No Boundaries
Some pieces of music one holds as a masterpiece of a time and era, still speak to young and old irrespective of age, exactly why music is a powerful tool getting a message through to all.
Peter Gabriel...The Carpet Crawlers
Songwriters: Michael Rutherford / Peter Gabriel / Phil Collins / Steven Hackett / Tony Banks
Genesis’ The Carpet Crawlers uses heavy metaphors, as in very-cryptic language, with the narrative contained therein being relayed in relation to a fictional character within the context of the entire concept album it is featured on (The Lamb Lives Down on Broadway). But there is still an overall theme which can be derived from the song, which is that the titular carpet crawlers are representative of a large segment of society who desires to get in to get out. In other words, they are seeking conformity in the name of liberation. And the entities they are apparently looking up to in order to help them achieve this goal, as in the ones whom they follow, are referred to as their callers. These callers basically symbolize the elite masters of the society this story is set in.
Song Meaning
Yes - And You And I
This holds exceptionally good memories seeing them live in London back in 1978, found this recent meet up which really makes it fascinating how music brings about happiness, or conveys a message between the lines, there is always meaning behind most well written songs.
Song was written by Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Bill Bruford, and Steve Howe all members of Yes at the time.
I listened hard but could not see
Life tempo change out and inside me
The preacher trained in all to lose his name;
The teacher travels, asking to be shown the same
In the end, we'll agree, we'll accept, we'll immortalize
That the truth of the man maturing in his eyes
Lyrics - Verse 5
The Animals - We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place
A time song writers got the message out worldwide through music when not happy with current situation, like beating a drum across the hills in warning or lighting lanterns to warn of imminent danger within society, songs must carry on.
By March of 1965, President Johnson launched Operation Rolling Thunder, a three-year campaign bombing of targets in North Vietnam and the Ho Chi Minh Trail. That same month the first American troops entered Vietnam when U.S. Marines landed on beaches near Da Nang, South Vietnam. As America was at war, and involvement would continue on through 1973, the songs of protest continually grew around a war no one ever wanted, including one of the first anthems of the time released by The Animals.

(no space) to get help on Hive. InfoThat video of Yes is fabulous. I've never listened so closely to that band. Excellent music.
Love the other two as well. Songs of freedom! Whenever someone writes one today, they get called far-right, Q-following, white supremacist bigots. Sad times for songs of protest. Thank you for posting these!
Here is the content I wrote 5 years ago on Yes Band lot more detail and photo of LP purchased at the time.
Music speaks all languages, so tired of woke attitude thrust on world today, hiding behind screens like media warriors, not fighting systems they appear to simply accept!
The insane amount of exceptional music that came from the UK during those decades is mind blowing.
Great selection from many parts of the world swayed your thinking or guided you to information one never heard where we lived.

How are you dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon
I loved this week's selection, especially
¨The animals¨ - ¨We have to get out of this place¨
Thank you very much for sharing beautiful music
"The Animals" started the musical industry to sit up and listen, many more bands or individual artists started anti-war songs.
Pity at the time very few knew of the war East/West happening down here in our land, truth takes time then runs like wild fire.
Very nice selection. I am often thinking that I need to get out of this place!. 😀 Love that tune.
Defiant song got the message across.
Still enjoy when mood swing happens to a negative, pulling back to positive through feeling the need to be more active in saying what you feel.
You hit the nail on the head there, it brings you back to the positive in a nice uplifting way!
Jolts the memory as to what we were all fighting for, equality, no wars, no draconian laws.
Great choice!
It was the time when Genesis was still musically innovative on the carpet. That ended with Gabriel's departure.
Incidentally, I got to see Eric Burdon live once. You don't hear a voice like that every day.
Most musicians moved around formed band did a couple of gigs then moved on, very few stayed as original band.
Eric Burdon must have been epic to see a live performance, he had a gritty voice that was distinctive.

Nice! I got to see Yes in 1994 in Philadelphia, and remember having a really good time. That was the only time I've ever seen them live, too.
You've really got some good songs here this week. Early Genesis is really fun, and Jon Anderson's voice just keeps getting better.
And yeah. The Animals!
Music over the years it is amazing how much is available, the period we went through new bands popped up frequently. Many musicians moved between bands making it difficult to select any particular one, most related to something specific at the time.
Three crackers. Great listening my friend. Rock on.
Whole idea is testing others music they enjoy, found a few through this weekly community, good fun!
