Hello monochromatic #Hive friends!... Welcome to a new edition of my black and white street photography... Today I want to write, and I'm not just talking about writing about each photo, because each one of them together with their brief captions say enough on their own... I really want to write about this hobby of mine to take pictures almost always in the same handful of streets of this small town called Montalbán, located in the central-north region of Venezuela and which sometimes does not even appear on the maps (I am serious, because when I was a child, our teacher would draw a dot with the name ‘Montalbán’ on the official maps sent by the ministry of education, because there we simply ‘did not appear’)... Can you see?... Here in my village almost anything has a little anecdote behind it!... But let's go ahead with the photos I brought you to share!...

¡Hola amigos monocromáticos de #Hive!... Bienvenidos a una nueva edición de mis fotografías callejeras en blanco y negro... Hoy quiero escribir, y no hablo solo de escribir respecto a cada foto, pues cada una de ellas junto a sus breves títulos dicen bastante por sí solas... En verdad quiero escribir acerca de esta afición mía por hacer fotos casi siempre en el mismo puñado de calles de este pequeño pueblo llamado Montalbán, enclavado en la región centro-norte de Venezuela y el cual a veces ni siquiera aparece en los mapas (hablo en serio, pues cuando yo era un niño, nuestra profesora dibujaba un punto con el nombre "Montalbán" en los mapas oficiales enviados por el ministerio de educación, pues allí simplemente "no aparecíamos")... ¿Lo ven?... ¡Aquí en mi pueblo casi cualquier cosa tiene una pequeña anécdota detrás!... ¡Pero sigamos adelante con las fotos que les traje para compartir!...

I know ‘Venegas’ since I was a child... A little more than 30 years ago he worked as a caporal on the hacienda of my brother-in-law's family... I remember that Venegas used to find snakes (many of them poisonous) in his barracks and grab them by the tail and throw them into the open fields. Curiously, it seems to me that Venegas looks the same as he did 30 years ago while I have been gradually getting older...

A "Venegas" le conozco desde que soy un niño... Poco más de 30 años atrás él trabajaba como caporal en la hacienda de la familia de mi cuñado... Recuerdo que Venegas solía encontrar serpientes (muchas de ellas venenosas) en su barraca y tomarlas por la cola para lanzar estas al descampado. Curiosamente, me parece que Venegas luce igual que hace 30 años mientras yo he ido envejeciendo paulatinamente...

Strange as it may seem (at least to many of us here in Montalbán, it seemed strange) last year a family decided to start a small laundry business near the centre of town... Suffice to say that ‘It was the only laundry that has existed in the whole history of Montalbán’ and unfortunately it only functioned for a few months, ending up disheartening its owners who left the village and have left their possessions for sale...

Por extraño que parezca (al menos a muchos aquí en Montalbán, nos pareció extraño) el año pasado una familia decidió emprender su negocio de pequeña lavandería cerca del centro del pueblo... Basta decir que "Fue la única lavandería que ha existido en toda la historia de Montalbán" y lamentablemente funcionó solo durante unos cuantos meses, terminando esto por descorazonar a sus propietarios quienes se marcharon del pueblo y han dejado sus posesiones en venta...

"Where you go and where you don't come back from" is the phrase my late father (whose remains are buried a few metres from where I took this photo) used to say every time he passed in front of a cemetery... Curiously, I have heard other people say this phrase when they are in places like this one... I confess that for me this is a somewhat pessimistic statement, as I believe that we are much more than this jumble of flesh, bone and thoughts with which we over-identify... But, be that as it may, that seemed to me an excellent title for this photo!... ;)

"Donde vas y de donde no vuelves" es la frase que solía decir mi difunto padre (cuyos restos por cierto están sepultados a pocos metros de donde hice esta foto) cada vez que pasaba frente a un camposanto... Curiosamente, he escuchado decir esta frase a otras personas cuando están en lugares como este... Confieso que para mi se trata de una afirmación un tanto pesimista, pues creo que somos mucho más que este amasijo de carne, hueso y pensamientos con el cual identificamos en exceso... Pero, sea como sea, ¡eso me pareció un excelente título para esta foto!... ;)

Not all my photos have a more or less complex story behind them. Sometimes they simply talk about: "A strange guy with a camera looking at things, looking for spaces and thinking while he's doing that"... I've learned to find the eloquence of the everyday, I've got the shapes engraved in my memory, what happens at certain times of day in certain places... I even think I have developed a kind of ‘super power’ to appear or predict close to something good to photograph... Or maybe I am really a bit crazy after all?... Well, anyway, no one will notice that maybe I'm some kind of ‘X-Men’ second-guesser, because I don't plan for anything in the world to wear one of those weird, colour-tight suits that they wear... Hehehehe :))... I'm writing incoherent stuff, I know...

No todas mis fotos tienen una historia más o menos compleja detrás. Algunas veces simplemente hablan de: "Un tipo un poco raro con una cámara mirando cosas, buscando espacios y pensando mientras hace eso"... Aprendí a encontrar la elocuencia de lo cotidiano, tengo grabadas en mi memoria las formas, lo que ocurre a determinadas horas en algunos lugares... Incluso creo que he desarrollado una especie de "super poder" para aparecer o predecir cerca de algo bueno para fotografiar.. ¿O será acaso que en verdad estoy un poco loco después de todo?... Bien, como sea, nadie se percatará de que quizás soy una especie de "X-Men" segundón, pues no pienso por nada del mundo ponerme uno de esos trajes extraños y ajustados a colores que usan ellos... Hehehe :))... Estoy escribiendo incoherencias, ya lo sé...
