My favorite Holiday song always resonates the mood

The holidays are often heralded by songs, and this continues throughout the season. The Christmas and New Year celebrations are marked by the majority of people worldwide, irrespective of religion and tribe.

Music is a tool that unites people, and on different occasions, we can hear people humming to songs that they know. Dare I say that there is a holiday spirit that flies about as people readily catch the flare when these holiday songs are played? When holiday songs are played, people tap into the songs irrespective of their moods, most often lightening their moods. It is odd to hear holiday songs when it is not a holiday period, and thus, consciousness arises when these holiday songs are played.

While growing up, I had the opportunity to enjoy holiday playlists on the old video cassettes, and even though I could not sing these songs line by line, I was committed to humming to them when they played. Not minding that I do not have musical skills, one of the activities I do not miss is Christmas carols. I am always open to carols from different churches; so far, it is convenient. The songs sound angelic, and my heart always gets lifted.

These holiday songs bear different stories and messages, sometimes taking us through a memory lane of tales read in the Holy Book. The best of these holiday songs is a Christmas song, Mary's Boy Child/Oh My Lord, by Boney M.

My favorite part of the song remains, "Hark, now hear the angels sing; a king was born today. And man will love forever more because of Christmas day."

I am so in love with this particular song because it tells the story of the circumstances surrounding the birth of Jesus and the hope for man's redemption. The song narrates the adoration of the baby Jesus, which is the very reason for the season. When a child is born in typical Africa, it is common to see mothers and grandparents hold the child lovingly and sing songs for the baby. This tradition continues through the infancy stage of the child, and like magic, it calms those babies. Holiday songs are both for children and adults and readily bring life to every atmosphere. Perhaps this is the only song to which I devoted my heart to learning the lyrics, not just because of the weight of the message underneath but also because of the alluring tune it gives.

I wonder what the holidays would be like without these songs. Very boring, I guess. You can see little children dancing excitedly to these songs; some adults also, and occasionally, nod their heads in its melody.

It is that period of holiday with hours away from Christmas day. I hope we get to enjoy some songs of melody during this yuletide period, lifting our moods and emotions into the festive season.
