En Cierta Forma Ganó Venezuela...

A pesar de la música, el viaje y los lujos de vivir la experiencia del final de un concurso internacional fuera de mi país, este post lo escribo con la intensión de desahogarme; pero no voy a ser tan radical, ya que en el arte todo es muy incierto, lo que le gusta a alguien puede no gustarle a otros. Lo que sí me parece extraño es que en un concurso, donde lo más importante debería ser la técnica correcta existan tantas irregularidades como las que me tocó apreciar en persona en mi último viaje a Medellín, donde acompañé a mi esposa y otros colegas cantantes de mi agrupación coral.

In spite of the music, the trip and the luxuries of living the experience of the final of an international contest outside my country, I am writing this post with the intention of letting off steam; but I am not going to be so radical, since in art everything is very uncertain, what someone likes may not be liked by others. What I do find strange is that in a contest, where the most important thing should be the correct technique, there are so many irregularities like the ones I saw in person on my last trip to Medellin, where I accompanied my wife and other fellow singers of my choral group.

Para resumir, en los primeros tres lugares, que eran los tres premios más importantes de este prestigioso concurso no quedó ninguno de los venezolanos que asistimos, y vaya que el nivel de nuestro país es muy alto, y sobre todo que al igual que los colombianos, éramos uno de los países que más personas llegaron hasta el final del certamen musical. En el video que les comparto arriba pueden apreciar a la mezzo soprano que ganó el tercer lugar y al bajo que ganó el primer lugar. El ganador es colombiano, pero la chica en pleno concierto final dijo que nació en Venezuela (motivo del título de este post), dijo que creció en Colombia, que estudió en Estados Unidos y cosas así, nombró a cuatro países, pero creo que solo usó el nombre de mi nación para llamar la atención, es la impresión que me dio.

To sum up, in the first three places, which were the three most important prizes of this prestigious contest, none of the Venezuelans who attended were left, and the level of our country is very high, and above all, just like the Colombians, we were one of the countries with more people who reached the end of the musical contest. In the video above you can see the mezzo soprano who won third place and the bass who won first place. The winner is Colombian, but the girl in the middle of the final concert said she was born in Venezuela (reason for the title of this post), she said she grew up in Colombia, that she studied in the United States and things like that, she named four countries, but I think she only used the name of my nation to call attention, that's the impression she gave me.

En el video aparecen estos dos cantantes porque realmente me parecieron muy buenos, no dudo que sean merecedores de los premios que le han tocado, los admiré mucho, pero no aparece la chica que ganó el segundo lugar, que era una Soprano mexicana, sinceramente no la grabé porque no me imaginé que ganaría un premio tan importante, pero me equivoqué. Los tenores es una de las voces más difíciles para encontrar cantantes de calidad, y mis tres amigos son mega talentosos, creo que los vieron en mi video del viernes para 3speak, y es muy raro que ninguno de los tres haya ganado nada, de hecho, un tenor realmente deficiente se llevó uno de los premios más pequeños que se usan para incentivar a los músicos.

In the video these two singers appear because I really thought they were very good, I do not doubt that they are worthy of the awards they have won, I admired them a lot, but the girl who won the second place does not appear, she was a Mexican Soprano, honestly I did not record her because I did not imagine she would win such an important award, but I was wrong. Tenors are one of the most difficult voices to find quality singers, and my three friends are mega talented, I think you saw them in my Friday video for 3speak, and it is very strange that none of the three won anything, in fact, a really poor tenor took one of the smallest awards used to encourage musicians.

Y sí, habían otros premios más pequeños, algunos eran incentivos económicos y otros eran oportunidades musicales, pero aquí también quedaron por fuera los muchachos. Le dieron un premio especial a tres de ellos, pero para cantar aquí mismo en Venezuela, algo que hacemos cotidianamente. Uno de nuestros barítonos ganó un premio en dólares, pero para dar más oportunidades, dividieron su premio a la mitad con una chica de México. En retrospectiva fue mi gran amiga Kim fue la más bendecida en los resultados, ya que se ganó una temporada de ópera en Medellín para finales del 2025 e inicios del 2026, en cierta forma a futuro tendrá la oportunidad de dar a conocer sus talentos en otras tierras. Lo raro es que mi amiga no pasó a la final y de la nada la llamaron para darle ese premio, esa fue otra irregularidad.

And yes, there were other smaller awards, some were economic incentives and others were musical opportunities, but here too the boys were left out. They gave a special prize to three of them, but to sing right here in Venezuela, something we do on a daily basis. One of our baritones won a prize in dollars, but to give more opportunities, they split his prize in half with a girl from Mexico. In retrospect it was my great friend Kim who was the most blessed in the results, as she won an opera season in Medellin for the end of 2025 and beginning of 2026, in a way that in the future she will have the opportunity to show her talents in other lands. The strange thing is that my friend did not pass to the final and out of the blue they called her to give her that award, that was another irregularity.

En fin, soy quien menos debería opinar, yo no fui a cantar, no tengo una voz tan potente y no tengo la edad, pero creo que representé a los otros noventa colegas de mi agrupación en vivo, ellos vieron todo por internet, pero yo lo sufrí en persona. Sé que lo hicieron bien y sé que algunos ganadores no lo merecían, pero al igual que en todo, siempre hay motivos ocultos, creo que es normal en cada aspecto del mundo que se favorezca a ciertas personas, todavía estoy aprendiendo a lidiar con eso, pero jamás olvidaré ver a los muchachos aplaudiendo y sonriendo a los demás como si sus corazones no estuvieran rotos, primero por el fraude electoral en Venezuela y ahora por este segundo golpe bajo en menos de una semana.

Anyway, I am the one who should have the least opinion, I did not go to sing, I do not have such a powerful voice and I am not old enough, but I think I represented the other ninety colleagues of my group live, they saw everything on the internet, but I suffered it in person. I know they did well and I know that some winners did not deserve it, but as in everything, there are always ulterior motives, I think it is normal in every aspect of the world that certain people are favored, I am still learning to deal with that, but I will never forget seeing the guys applauding and smiling at each other as if their hearts were not broken, first because of the electoral fraud in Venezuela and now because of this second low blow in less than a week.

No tengo casi fotografías de esa noche, no estaba de humor, incluso salí llorando de ese teatro, como si yo hubiera sido directamente afectado jajaja. los muchachos tuvieron que calmarme a mí, y luego de eso nos fuimos a una zona alegre a ahogar nuestras penas en el alcohol 🤣 creo que fue la primera vez que necesitaba tomar algo fuerte para olvidar. Quedaron este par de fotografías, que al final fui yo quien las tomó. En ellas hay más dientes que en una pelea de perros, todos sonreímos; la indignación nos esperaría al llegar a nuestros sitios de hospedaje y apagar las luces para dormir, igual que todos los duelos... Al día siguiente y luego de pocas horas de sueño levanté a mi grupito de tres chicas sopranos venezolanas y me las llevé a conocer Medellín en un solo día, pero esas son historias para otros posts 😉

I have almost no pictures of that night, I was not in the mood, I even left that theater crying, as if I had been directly affected hahaha. the guys had to calm me down, and after that we went to a cheerful area to drown our sorrows in alcohol 🤣 I think it was the first time I needed to drink something strong to forget. There were these couple of pictures left, which in the end I was the one who took them. In them there are more teeth than in a dog fight, we all smiled; the indignation would be waiting for us when we got to our lodging places and turned off the lights to sleep, just like all the duels.... The next day and after a few hours of sleep I picked up my little group of three Venezuelan soprano girls and took them to get to know Medellin in one day, but those are stories for other posts 😉
