Our First Concert of 2026

Happy start to the week everyone! For me, this Saturday and Sunday have been incredibly satisfying and restful—and it’s all thanks to what we achieved as a choral group last Friday. To give you a taste of the experience, I invite you to watch the video I’ve posted above on the 3speak platform; it features scenes from the final moments of our first major concert of 2026, held at the Simón Bolívar Hall within the National Center for Social Action through Music in Caracas. ¡Feliz inicio de semana para todos!. Para mí, este Sábado y Domingo han sido de mucha satisfacción y descanso, y todo se debe a lo que logramos como agrupación coral el pasado Viernes. This concert had it all. The repertoire was entirely sacred—a selection of music that has accompanied our choral group since its inception in 2006. Indeed, this coming May marks the 20th anniversary of the choir's founding, and this concert served as a pre-anniversary celebration. I am proud to be just a few months away from completing my ninth year with the group; my wife, meanwhile, has already been a member for nearly twelve years. Consequently, this feels like a second home to us, and much of this music has been an integral part of our lives during many very special moments. Este concierto lo tuvo todo. El repertorio fue totalmente sacro y fue una selección de música que ha acompañado a nuestra agrupación coral desde sus inicios en el año 2006. Sí, el próximo mes de Mayo vamos a cumplir 20 años desde la creación de la Coral, y este fue un concierto pre aniversario. Orgullosamente estoy a pocos meses de cumplir 9 años en esta agrupación, y mi esposa sí tiene ya casi 12 años en ella, así que esta es una segunda casa para nosotros y mucha de esta música ha sido parte de nosotros dos en momentos muy especiales. 2. Abendlied by Josep Gabriel Rheinberger.

3. Kyrie and Gloria from the Mass for Double Choir by Frank Martin.

4. Kvalite imya Gospodne (Vespers, Op. 37: VIII) by Sergei Rachmaninoff.

5. Eja Mater by Kim André Arnesen.

6. Ecco mormorar l’onde by Claurdio Monteverdi.

7. Even when he is silent by Kim André Arnesen.

8. Cast thy burden upon the Lord by Alexander Consolation II.

9. Amor de mi alma by Z. Randall Stroope.

10. O Love by Elaine Hagenberg. 11. My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord by Moses Hogan.

11. Lux Aurunque by Eric Whitacre.

We were joined by the principal cellist and harpist of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra to perform Eja Mater and O Love. Additionally, for Amor de mi Alma, the third piece with piano, members of the choir played.

7. Even when he is silent de Kim André Arnesen.
8. Cast thy burden upon the Lord de Alejandro Consolación II.
9. Amor de mi alma de Z. Randall Stroope.
10. O Love de Elaine Hagenberg.
11. My soul’s been anchored in the Lord de Moses Hogan.
12. Lux Aurunque de Eric Whitacre.

Nos acompañó el chelista y la arpista principales de la Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar para interpretar el Eja Mater y O Love y además, para Amor de mi Alma, que es la tercera pieza con piano, quienes tocaron fueron integrantes de la misma coral.

There were many special moments during this concert, but—wow—the finale (which you can see in the video above) was truly one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments. We spread out across the entire hall, mingling with the audience, to perform the evocative choral piece Lux Aurumque; the connection we shared with the attendees was truly special—definitely a good omen as we approach our 20th anniversary. A unique feature of this concert is that the majority of the repertoire is sung with the voices intermingled—rather than arranged in blocks of sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses; this technique heightens the ensemble's concentration and yields more sublime pianos and more powerful fortes. This promises to be an outstanding musical season; we’ve barely finished this concert, and we already have new dates lined up. With each passing day, I feel even happier to have chosen this way of life 🙏

Hubo muchos momentos especiales en este concierto, pero vaya que el final, lo que pueden apreciar en el video de arriba fue uno de esos momentos irrepetibles en la vida. Nos distribuimos por toda la sala entre el público para interpretar la pieza coral efectista Lux Aurunque, y la conexión con el público asistente fue muy especial, definitivamente en buen augurio para nuestros 20 años que ya se aproximan. Una peculiaridad de este concierto es que la mayor parte del repertorio lo cantamos mezclados y no en bloques de sopranos, contraltos, tenores y bajos, esta técnica eleva la concentración de la agrupación, y proporciona pianos más sublimes y fortes más potentes... Fue Impresionante!!!Esta será una temporada musical sobresaliente, apenas terminamos este concierto y ya tenemos nuevas fechas. Cada día más feliz de haber elegido esta modalidad de vida 🙏
