Last weekend I finally saw Rocketman and ufff, I still have it going around in my head... I know what you're thinking: the typical comparison with Bohemian Rhapsody, it's inevitable... after all, both are biopics of music legends, aren't they? But here's the key, the difference: while Bohemian Rhapsody shows you the success despite the guy's problems, Rocketman turns it around and shows you the guy despite the success... it really gets into the most personal and raw part of Elton John's life, and that's what really hooked me, before watching it, I really didn't know what to expect... I had heard that it was much more than just catchy songs and spectacular shows, but I didn't imagine I was going to be so surprised. Rocketman doesn't just celebrate the hits or how great the artist was; on the contrary, it takes us through a journey with highs and lows, where excesses, addictions and the constant struggle to find himself are at the center of everything, unlike Bohemian Rhapsody, which softens a bit the darker themes of fame to tell you a story of triumph, Rocketman dives head first into those difficult moments and lets you see Elton as a fragile, vulnerable, flesh and blood human being. . and standing ovations for Taron Egerton!

From minute one, you realize that you are not watching a simple Elton John imitation, but a performance with a soul of its own, yes, his voice is not the same as Elton's, but who cares? What matters is how he conveys every emotion, every fear, every passion.... Egerton doesn't just play Elton, he embodies him with an authenticity that makes every scene feel real, close... from the most intimate moments of insecurity to when he explodes with energy in the musical shows, the guy manages to capture the essence of a man whose life was so incredible.

El finde por fin me vi Rocketman y ufff, todavía la tengo dando vueltas en la cabeza.. ya sé lo que estarán pensando: la típica comparación con Bohemian Rhapsody, es inevitable.. al final, las dos son biopics de leyendas de la música, ¿no? Pero aquí está la clave, la diferencia: mientras Bohemian Rhapsody te muestra el éxito a pesar de los problemas del tipo, Rocketman le da la vuelta y te muestra al tipo a pesar del éxito.. se mete de lleno en lo más personal y crudo de la vida de Elton John, y eso fue lo que me enganchó de verdad, antes de verla, la verdad, no sabía qué esperar.. había escuchado que era mucho más que solo canciones pegadizas y shows espectaculares, pero no me imaginé que me iba a sorprender tanto. Rocketman no se queda solo en celebrar los hits o lo genial que era el artista; al contrario, nos lleva por un viaje con altas y bajas, donde los excesos, las adicciones y la lucha constante por encontrarse a sí mismo son el centro de todo, a diferencia de Bohemian Rhapsody, que suaviza un poco los temas más oscuros de la fama para contarte una historia de triunfo, Rocketman se zambulle de cabeza en esos momentos difíciles y te deja ver a Elton como un ser humano frágil, vulnerable, de carne y hueso.. y aplausos de pie para Taron Egerton!

Desde el minuto uno, te das cuenta de que no estás viendo una simple imitación de Elton John, sino una actuación con alma propia, sí, su voz no es igualita a la de Elton, pero ¿a quién le importa? Lo que vale es cómo te transmite cada emoción, cada miedo, cada pasión.. Egerton no solo interpreta a Elton, lo encarna con una autenticidad que hace que cada escena se sienta real, cercana.. desde los momentos más íntimos de inseguridad hasta cuando explota de energía en los shows musicales, el tipo logra captar la esencia de un hombre cuya vida fue tan increíble.

There are some little things that kind of made me feel a little bit uncomfortable, for starters, some of the secondary characters feel kind of flat, you know? It's like the movie focuses so much on Elton that the others sometimes seem to be there as filler, as part of the scenery... some characters disappear and reappear without much explanation, and that kind of leaves you a little lost, there were also scenes that I felt were a little too much, as if the movie was trying to mix a lot of drama with show, I don't know if I understand... it's not that they destroy the movie, but they did leave me thinking a couple of times.

Another issue that has been commented a lot is how the movie shows Elton as if he was always the victim, yes, his life was a mess, full of problems and complicated relationships, but sometimes it seems that the story puts all the blame on others: the cold dad, the abusive manager, the fake people in the environment... the movie doesn't hide his excesses and his moments of self-destruction, but sometimes you get the feeling that Elton is just a guy to whom horrible things happened and he had nothing to do with it. It would have been nice if they had given a little more depth to that subject... but despite these details, Rocketman is an amazing movie! It's a mix of drama, music, humor and an irreverent vibe that manages to capture the essence of Elton John without being a simple homage without soul, it shows us not only the icon, but the flesh and blood guy behind the scenes, with all his weaknesses and strengths... it's a story that makes you think about the price of fame and the constant search for acceptance.

Hay algunas cositas que como que me hicieron ruido, para empezar, algunos personajes secundarios se sienten medio planos, ¿saben? Como que la peli se enfoca tanto en Elton que los demás a veces parecen estar ahí de relleno, como parte del decorado.. por ahí, algunos personajes desaparecen y vuelven a aparecer sin mucha explicación, y eso como que te deja medio perdido, también hubo escenas que sentí que sobraban un poco, como si la peli estuviera queriendo mezclar mucho drama con show, no sé si me explico.. tampoco es que te destruyan la peli, pero sí me dejaron pensando un par de veces.

Otro tema que se ha comentado bastante es cómo la peli muestra a Elton como si siempre fuera la víctima, sí, su vida fue un lío, llena de problemas y relaciones complicadas, pero a veces parece que la historia le echa toda la culpa a los demás: que si el papá frío, que si el manager abusivo, que si la gente falsa del ambiente.. la peli no esconde sus excesos y sus momentos de autodestrucción, pero a veces te queda la sensación de que Elton es solo un tipo al que le pasaron cosas horribles y él no tuvo nada que ver. Habría estado bueno que le dieran un poco más de profundidad a ese tema.. pero a pesar de estos detalles, Rocketman es una película ¡increíble! Es una mezcla de drama, música, humor y una onda irreverente que logra captar la esencia de Elton John sin ser un simple homenaje sin alma, nos muestra no solo al ícono, sino al tipo de carne y hueso detrás del escenario, con todas sus debilidades y sus fortalezas.. es una historia que te pone a pensar en el precio de la fama y en esa búsqueda constante de que te acepten.

Something that is great, is to know that Elton John himself was involved in the production, obviously they took his licenses for the film, but the story feels honest, as if Elton himself was telling you his life in his own way.... that gives a special value to the movie, because it is not just a biography, but the version of the facts told with the approval of the protagonist, I confess that before watching Rocketman I had my doubts, I didn't know if I was going to get hooked or if it was going to be just another biopic with catchy songs and that's it.

But in the end I ended up liking it a lot, the mix of humor and drama, the music used in a super original way, and how they show you the most human side of Elton, it is an experience that makes you feel every emotion with the protagonist. So, if you're looking for a biopic that isn't afraid to show life as it is, with its good and bad things, Rocketman is for you... it's not perfect, obviously, and there are moments that maybe feel a little forced, but overall it's a thrilling ride, visually amazing and with a lot of heart.

I give it an 8.5/10. Algo que es genial, es saber que el mismísimo Elton John estuvo metido en la producción, obvio que se tomaron sus licencias para el cine, pero la historia se siente honesta, como si el propio Elton te estuviera contando su vida a su manera.. eso le da un valor especial a la peli, porque no es solo una biografía, sino la versión de los hechos contada con el visto bueno del protagonista, les confieso que antes de ver Rocketman tenía mis dudas, no sabía si me iba a enganchar o si iba a ser otra biopic más con canciones pegadizas y ya.

Pero al final me terminó gustando mucho, la mezcla de humor y drama, la música usada de una manera súper original, y cómo te muestran el lado más humano de Elton, es una experiencia que te hace sentir cada emoción con el protagonista. Así que, si andan buscando una biopic que no le tenga miedo a mostrar la vida tal cual es, con sus cosas buenas y malas, Rocketman es para ustedes.. no es perfecta, obvio, y hay momentos que quizás se sienten un poco forzados, pero en general es un viaje emocionante, visualmente increíble y con mucho corazón.
