The rabbit hole of music streaming - My first 5 minutes a day.
Have you ever put one of your playlist songs on Spotify or Youtube Music while working or studying? Then, hours pass and you end up in a place way different from that where you started.
What began with a 2000s Hip Hop song ended in:
- Heavy Metal
- 80s Synth-Pop
- Salsa or Merengue
This has happened to me many times, especially when I get consumed in my work or a project, and I say: I'm damn glad for It! Most of the songs I listen to currently have been found in this way.
I've found this to be really beneficial, not only for expanding our perspective but also for our ability to make/compose music. Country, Classical or Latin Rhythms can be a great influence not only for artists in these genres but also for ones in vastly different categories, where much-welcomed details can push the sonic landscape of music.
The beautiful thing about music is that It doesn't even have to sound pleasing at times to be considered a great piece (Look at dissonant chords). This, coupled with experimentation, the only thing that can push art forward, has kept the industry thriving for 100+ years. That's why I consider the future of music to be in these rabbit holes of binge-hearing.
