JOY IS COMING

The year 2025 started on a good note for us in Nigeria. It began with a trending song that has become more like a slogan for the year, JOY IS COMING. It’s truly a confession we all need to hold on to, no matter the troubles we are facing. It serves as an assurance that there’s light at the end of the tunnel, and we shouldn’t give up.

I love how everyone is confessing to the lyrics of the song, dancing to it, and not minding the issues at hand. It’s the kind of song that, whenever you hear it being played, you just have to sing along with the part, “Joy is coming,” and it gladdens the mind so much.

Lyrics source "Put on your shoe, make you stand at ease. All your sorrow, make you dance dem free."

This part of the lyrics is the bomb! It points out that you can, and should, dance off your sorrows because joy is coming, and better days lie ahead.

As much as we know this life hack of always being happy, avoiding negative thoughts, refusing to dwell in sorrow, and constantly expecting good things to come our way, life and its troubles often make it difficult to practice these things. However, life itself reminds us to keep trying because this is one of the best ways to live fully. Life is short, and we shouldn’t spend half of it in sorrow.

I’ve found myself in situations where it was hard to see the good coming because of how deeply I was hurt or how depressed I felt. I tried to be happy, but my mind was too heavy to bring out the happiness needed to swallow the hurt and depression.

We often hear this sermon in church: to relax and be happy even in the midst of sadness because being alive alone is an assurance that better things are on the way. As I’ve said many times, it’s a big task, but it’s worth it. Keeping the heart joyful and expecting good things to happen has a unique way of freeing the mind.

This song was released in December 2024 by a new artist in Nigeria’s music industry, Mr. FIDO. I hope the song doesn’t fade away too soon. Let it stay longer as we continue dancing to it, confessing positivity, and reassuring our minds that better things are coming and we mustn’t give up.

Thanks!

For some reasons I don't really like this song, don't know why. But as I listened to it this time around, I was quite refreshed.

This year, joy is coming indeed.
