Market Friday: Music in the Park

Summertime is a really special time where I live, in a myriad of ways. We emerge from a long cold snowy winter and we cannot be kept indoors. We dine out on patios, many now where dogs are allowed. Minnesota is special.

For my Market Friday post this week (sorry, a day late), hosted by the lovely and amazing @dswigle, I thought I’d share my first concert in the park of the season.

These take place at multiple venues around the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul Minnesota. This particular one is on “The Commons” each week in the tiny town of Excelsior, which sits on the edge of Lake Minnetonka.

It’s such a lovely venue, right on the water. People with boats come and dock or just float nearby to hear the live band, which is always an awesome cover band that plays favorites from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, etc.

The rest of us bring blankets or chairs and connect up with friends to chat and hear the music. It’s hugely popular, and such a great way to spend a summer evening! And there are tons of food trucks, so you’ve got your choice of lots of great food, drink and treats.

It’s such fun to be out with friends and out and about once the weather warms up! We are absolutely giddy with happiness.

At the end of the event, everyone packs up to go home, with night falling. The food trucks all turn off their grills and hot plates, and pull their sides down and drive away. There’s a satisfying feeling in the air of time well spent, good food consumed, good music and good friends enjoyed.

I walked back across the commons, past the boats and a little outdoor ice cream shop that is super popular each summer, back toward my car. It was a lovely time of day, with lights glowing and people still out and about enjoying the end of a nice summer day.

A setting by the water and live music is a wonderful combination, along with food and drinks. This is life. In the Netherlands, people do take advantage of the warmer months with events similar to this.
Overall, this looked like a grand event:)

Oh it's so lovely. Yes! I suspect everywhere in the world that experiences very cold winters and pleasant summers is similar. People out and about, enjoying every moment of warmth and fresh air and sunshine! Thank you for visiting, @millycf1976!

That looked like an amazing time. The years of the music would make it perfect for the wife and I. The food trucks would make it heaven for me😀. Sitting around in an informal setting like that with friends and family enjoying the music next to the water has to be so much fun. What were some of the genres of music?

Oh yes, it's totally 80's and 90's pop. Journey, etc. All the faves!

I love the music in the park nights of summer! It's official~! We had Memorial Day, so we can wear white and have concerts! Woo-hoo! In Connecticut, we had concerts in the park (beachside park) and it was the best, always! We were lucky enough to get people that we recognized their name because some lived close and plus, I think they knew how cool that would be.

Laen chairs and friends, it never got old. We would meet and greet as many as we saw. How fun that you meet up with people the same. We have a lot of that at the shore house, but in the DC area, it tends to be a more organized thing for crowd control, although some of the smaller towns do that, but, then there are too many that show up.

I ask you, can it ever be too many?

The food trucks are a huge part of the entertainment, aren't they? Oh, now you have me longing to check out the next events and see what I can see. You looked so awesome in the picture with your friends!~ Happy summer, my friend~! Thanks so much for the awesome support you show #MarketFriday! Thank you~!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Oh yes, it's a total experience, @dswigle. Isn't it amazing that something similar goes on in various places across the US and around the world? One wonders if there was a first and others followed suit, or if the wonderful idea of summer concerts with food trucks, beer, and wine and plenty of space for blankets and lawn chairs was spawned simultaneously in the minds of creative event owners everywhere. 😄
