Last week, I talked about Dragon Ball OPs and which ones might be the best, considering the sheer number of them throughout history. That got me thinking about those bygone eras where there were truly gems of themes that served as opening lines for the most beloved anime, even today. To do this, we have to go back many years and go to the days when we would faithfully wait in the afternoons for the anime marathon on TV to start. Many of us grew up with those songs, and that's why I'm going to revive them today.

La semana pasada hablé de los OP de Dragon Ball y de cuáles podrían ser los mejores teniendo en cuenta la gran cantidad que tienen a lo largo de la historia. Aquello me llevó a pensar en esas épocas pasadas en donde la verdad había verdaderas joyas de temas que servían de comienzos para los anime más queridos por todos, incluso hoy en día. Para esto hay que remontarse muchos años atrás e irse a los tiempos en donde uno por las tardes fielmente esperaba a que comenzara el maratón de anime que daban en la televisión. Muchos de nosotros crecimos con esas canciones y por eso que hoy las voy a revivir.

- Pegasus Fantasy - Saint Seiya

A few days ago, Nobou Yamada, the great singer of this magnificent song, passed away due to an illness. Coincidentally, this review was a perfect fit because it will serve as a tribute to the author of one of the most beloved OPs, at least for me, in all of history. For those who haven't seen Saint Seiya, I can say that I can easily put it in the top five anime I've enjoyed and liked the most. Few have such a detailed and extensive story, and most importantly, such impressive character development. This is a very heroic song that speaks of awakening the cosmos within the heart and fighting to the bitter end for the future. This is an anthem for a generation.

Hace pocos días Nobou Yamada, el gran cantante de este gran tema, falleció producto de una enfermedad. Casualmente me vino como anillo al dedo esta reseña porque servirá para hacerle el homenaje al autor de uno de los OP más queridos, por lo menos para mi, de toda la historia. Para el que no haya visto Saint Seiya le puedo decir que fácilmente lo puedo poner en el top 5 de los anime que más he disfrutado y que más me han gustado, pocos tienen una historia tan detallada y extensa y lo más importante un desarrollo de los personajes tan impresionante como este anime. Esta canción es una muy heroica que habla del despertar el cosmos que hay en el corazón y luchar hasta el final por el futuro. Esto es un himno de una generación.

- Pokemon Theme - Pokemon season 1

I was an extremely fanatic about Pokémon, but only from the first generation. After that, I completely lost track of its history. Being so obsessed with all of this made me appreciate this song quite a bit, which for some strange reason many people or websites don't include in their rankings, considering how legendary and good it is. The curious thing about this is that this version is the most famous worldwide and was performed by Jason Paige. It was later covered in Latin America and Spain. In Japan, I understand, it's another opening that doesn't have the power of this great song. It's in this top list because the song genuinely strikes a nostalgic note and because it's super pleasant to listen to. A very underrated OP, in my opinion, given how important it is.

Yo fui una persona extremadamente fanática de Pokémon pero solo de aquella primera generación, ya después de allí le perdí totalmente el rastro a la historia. Ser tan obsesivo con todo esto me hizo apreciar bastante este tema, que por alguna extraña razón muchas personas o portales no colocan en sus ranking teniendo en cuenta lo mitica y buena que es. Lo curioso de esto es que esta versión es la más conocida mundialmente hablando y estuvo a cargo de Jason Paige, luego fue versionada al latino y a España. En Japón entiendo es otro opening el cual no tiene la fuerza que tuvo este gran tema. Está en este top porque genuinamente la canción pega nostálgicamente y porque al oido es super agradable de escuchar. Un OP muy infravalorado en mi opinión dado lo importante que es.

- Moonlight Densetsu - Sailor Moon

We've reached what is probably the most "controversial" OP, basically because of the anime itself. There was always the perception that Sailor Moon was only watched by women, and the truth is, that's not the case. I remember not watching it in its entirety, but I did watch it for a long time. But what's truly special is its OP, which in this case I'm putting in Latin. It's spectacular in Japanese too, but the connection created is through the voice of the person singing it. Marisa de Lile is the same singer who sings the endings for Dragon Ball and DBZ in Latin, hence the familiarity and how incredible it sounds. "A kaleidoscope is my heart" and asking the moonlight to guide love are some of the things we can hear here. This song is in the top 10 because I consider Sailor Moon a cult anime; many people are truly fans of the story, and there's nothing better than doing so with an OP as legendary as this one.

Llegamos al probablemente el OP más "polémico" básicamente por el anime que es. Siempre hubo la concepción de que Sailor Moon lo veían solo mujeres y la verdad es que no es así, yo recuerdo no verlo completo pero si lo vi por mucho tiempo. Pero lo realmente especial es su OP que en este caso lo pongo en latino, en japonés es espectacular también, pero la conexión generada es por la voz de quien la canta. Marisa de Lile es la misma que canta los endings de Dragon Ball y DBZ en latino, de ahí la familiaridad y lo increíble que suena. "Un caleidoscopio es mi corazón" y pedirle a la luz de la luna que guie el amor son algunas de las cosas que podemos escuchar acá. Esta canción está en el top porque Sailor Moon lo considero un anime de culto, muchas personas son realmente fanáticas de la historia y nada mejor que hacerlo con OP tan mítico como este.

- Zankoku na Tenshi no Tēze - Evangelion (Bonus)

I've said it before around here, but for me this opening is the best of all time. Evangelion is a very dense anime that might have been difficult to understand as children. I think I should watch it as an adult to better understand it. Yoko Takahashi is the singer of this gem that never goes out of style. "The Cruel Angel's Thesis" is a super profound song that speaks of incomprehensible feelings, and with experience, it will be the only way to know and understand the destiny that lies ahead. An extraordinary and anthological OP.

Lo he dicho antes por estos lados, para mi este opening es el mejor de todos los tiempos. Evangelion es un anime muy denso que quizás siendo niños pudo haber sido complicado de entender, creo que habría verlo de adulto para poder comprenderlo mejor. Yōko Takahashi es la cantante de esta joya que nunca pasa de moda. "La tesis del cruel angel" es una canción super profunda que habla de sentimientos inentendibles y que con la experiencia será la única forma de saber y conocer el destino que hay por delante. Un OP antológico y extraordinario.

Nunca he sido muy fan de las series de anime pero de verdad que hay openings memorables, que con tal solo escucharlos ahora te trasladan mentalmente a otras épocas.

Muchos openings trascienden más allá del hecho de que guste el anime o no. Hay canciones espectaculares que perfectamente se pueden escuchar sin saber nada de este mundo.

The Pokémon OP is one of my big favorites, impossible not to sing it while listening to the beat. This post is a trip to nostalgia.

That OP is incredible. To think that this version was the one that ended up making it big instead of the Japanese one is incredible. It's a really good song.
