(ESP-ENG) Limp Bizkit - A very 2000's music.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
In the early 90's a very particular band was born, combining nu rock, which is a subgenre of metal, with rap and hip hop. In those beginnings they didn't become so well known until we entered the new millennium, precisely in the year 2000 when this band released an album called "Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water" which was the perfect springboard for success because in this work you find their most popular and commercial songs. I remember that at that time I was about 14-15 years old and the fever that I got with this group was crazy to the point that I bought that CD, in fact I must have it, when buying CDs in the disco stores was the best thing that there was, that was a real sample of how fanatic you could be. That's why today I decided to talk a little bit about this band and show those songs that I listened to as a teenager and that today are still a very important reference for many people.
- Rollin'
Fred Durst at the time was one of the most hated rappers and one that many people hated because of what he did with Limp Bizkit. Why? - Because he managed to combine two genres at a time when there were always quarrels and fights between exponents, for example, punk vs. metalheads vs. Hip Hop vs. rappers; it was an all against all where everyone sought to defend their own and belittle the other. In fact in this song there is a spear towards the punk fans. But the same metal people also hated it because for them it wasn't pure metal. The thing is that Limp Bizkit was something very big, for better or for worse, and in that time they released great songs that marked a before and after and this was one of them. Rollin' is not deep at all, I listen to it and what I hear is a song that tells us something like "here we are, make way and those who don't want to, we don't care", it's something to make themselves felt, like a statement of intent. What I always liked was the sound of metal with its guitars and drums combined with the rapping and the synthesizer, it was something unique that called my attention powerfully.
- My Generation
If the previous song was a clear statement, what to say about this one. Limp Bizkit was always very vindictive with their movement and with the people who followed them, if they had to say something about it they said it and that's it and this song is the living example of that. Mi Generación is a song that basically talks about how they don't care about anything and will never care about what some people talk about, they will continue to be the way they are despite the fact that it has been a generation with a lot of vices and problems. Again, it is a song directed at punk, that enmity was always present and they took care to make it known and noticed every time they could. But what is the most striking thing? - At least for me, the beginning. As with the previous one, the sound of the bass and the bass drum is an introduction to metal and then all the rap comes out, and there is even a DJ to accompany the typical sounds of hip hop. For a true metal purist it must have been complicated to listen to something like that, I think it was something that was not conceivable, it was as if trash metal was united with bachata. It was a strange hybrid but I personally liked it a lot, I think it was that, the particularity of the sound that ended up liking it so much.
- My Way
This is perhaps one of the most meaningful songs and one with the most "deep" lyrics that they have. My Way is a song that explains when someone is tired of everything, of being trampled on and singled out and decides to let out everything they have to say. Tired of being told what to do and how to act and that from now on he is going to do it his way no matter if it is the right thing to do or not. As I said this band was very critical and vindictive, they didn't care about what was said. Also if you see the video it is a kind of satire towards other urban tribes or genres, in fact it fits quite well with the lyrics, so if it was a kind of criticism it should not be discarded at all. Unlike the previous ones, this one starts directly with the sound of the DJ, the vocal quality of Fred, who by the way is considered one of the best metal voices of all time in a list of 100 vocalists, is much more noticeable and the sound in general is still super interesting. In fact there is like a solo between the DJ and the drummer very curious and full of quality, the musicians here were very good and top, that's undeniable. That's how these three songs marked a before and after in the life of this band and made them what they became, Limp Bizkit was an era.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos escuchamos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, we'll hear you in the next one!
Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linkin Park, etc. Fue una época muy cool en dónde el rock/metal estaba en su apogeo. Muy buenos recuerdos. En lo personal Rolin es la que más me gusta, ese vídeo es icónico.
Saludos bro!!
I remember buying their CD Significant Other, probably some of the few I ever bought but their music was hot HOT back in those days, I just bought me a Sony discman with antyskip so when I move around the music doesnt stop if the cd skips by vibration, oh those were good times, with Limp Bizkit came Korn too, how things have change , thx for the memories ✌️
Sure, the Discmans were brutal, many CDs I listened to over there. And of course, Korn with their Freak on a Leash on loop were also iconic at the time.
WHAT´S? Limp Bizkit? John Otto?
WAOOOOOOOOO
Saludossss!!!
Excelente artículo maestro, bien completo!!
Muchas gracias, amigo!
Saludos!
Love how you wrote that, although I have a different opinion (Fred stole and over-commercialized the new-metal not invent it) Limp Bizkit still makes me wanna be rollin
