Existen pocos artistas que de verdad yo puedo considerarlos como unos genios en lo que hacen, tanto a la hora de interpretar y tocar un instrumento como al momento de componer los temas en cuestión. Creo que dentro de ese grupo muy selecto que tengo en mi mente hoy decido hablar de John Mayer, un músico, guitarrista y compositor con una calidad excepcional en casi todos sus trabajos. Desde hace un buen tiempo, como desde el 2000-2001 tengo conocimiento de él y poco a poco he estado escuchando su muy buena música. Es un artista que se caracteriza dentro del género del rock pop, a veces puede incluir un poco de blues y hasta el propio country. Honestamente es un cantante muy versátil y eso lo demuestra en cada álbum que saca, es por eso que hoy les quiero mostrar algunas de las canciones que me parecen más top y mágicas del gran John Mayer.

There are few artists that I can truly consider as geniuses in what they do, both when interpreting and playing an instrument and when composing the songs in question. I think that within that very select group that I have in my mind today I decide to talk about John Mayer, a musician, guitarist and composer with an exceptional quality in almost all his works. I have known about him for a long time, since 2000-2001, and little by little I have been listening to his very good music. He is an artist that is characterized within the pop rock genre, sometimes he can include a bit of blues and even country itself. Honestly he is a very versatile singer and that shows in every album he releases, that's why today I want to show you some of the songs that I think are the most top and magical of the great John Mayer.

- Shouldn't Matter but It Does

Sin miedo a equivocarme este es uno de los mejores temas de John Mayer. Esta canción pertenece al último disco que sacó hace un par de años llamado "Sob Rock", un disco que además es espectacular por donde lo escuches. El detalle con Mayer es la forma en como interpreta, tiene un timbre de voz muy suave, él no es de los que grita o alza la voz para cantar, todo lo contrario; esa forma de cantar a mi parecer logra que sus canciones lleguen con más certeza a los oídos y corazón de quien lo está oyendo. La letra es espectacular porque nos habla del que hubiera pasado, de las oportunidades perdidas, de que si hubiésemos hecho algo de tal manera o actuado de tal forma el resultado de nuestro presente sería muy distinto y ahora estuviéramos juntos pensando el nombre del próximo bebé, por poner un ejemplo de los que él menciona en la canción. Como dije el género en donde él deambula es el rock, la cosa es que a partir de allí lo puede llevar al soul y al pop, como es este caso. Es un tema muy relajante y armonioso, es casi como si estuviéramos escuchando un acústico puro y duro, al ser guitarrista es lo que predomina acá. La canción para mi es un estado de animo, es muy fácil identificarse con ella, capaz de allí a que me guste tanto. Tómense su tiempo es escúchenla que vale mucho la pena.

Without a doubt this is one of John Mayer's best songs. This song belongs to the last album he released a couple of years ago called "Sob Rock", an album that is also spectacular wherever you listen to it. The detail with Mayer is the way he interprets, he has a very soft voice timbre, he is not one of those who shouts or raises his voice to sing, on the contrary; that way of singing in my opinion makes his songs reach with more certainty to the ears and heart of the listener. The lyrics are spectacular because they talk about what would have happened, about lost opportunities, that if we had done something in such a way or acted in such a way the result of our present would be very different and now we would be together thinking about the name of the next baby, to give an example of those he mentions in the song. As I said the genre in which he wanders is rock, the thing is that from there he can take it to soul and pop, as in this case. It is a very relaxing and harmonious song, it is almost as if we were listening to a pure and hard acoustic, being a guitarist is what predominates here. The song for me is a state of mind, it is very easy to identify with it, maybe that's why I like it so much. Take your time and listen to it, it's worth it.

- Your Body Is a Wonderland

Si ustedes escuchan este tema después de haber hecho lo mismo con la primera canción que les compartí arriba se darán cuenta de la evolución del artista musicalmente hablando. Este tema tiene 22 años, salió en el 2001 y es quizás el más comercial de su discografía, de hecho me atrevería a decir que rara vez la canta en sus conciertos, de ahí la evolución de la que les hablo. Solamente por el sonido, por la forma en como empieza ya nos damos cuenta que es un material, visto hoy en día, genérico y más del montón a pesar de lo buena que es la canción. En los primeros 10 segundos ya nos damos cuenta de que es un sonido que pocas veces se lo podemos escuchar hoy por hoy y es que también es uno muy característico de los 2000, aquella época era una dominada enteramente por el pop y para poder estar en la palestra y compitiendo con los grandes de aquellos tiempo tenía que adaptarse a ello. La letra es básica, habla de la maravilla que es el cuerpo de la mujer con la que él está y que lo único que quiere es compartir con ella y explorar dicho cuerpo todo el día. Me parece impresionante como este tema llegó a ser uno de los más escuchado por la gente de Mayer, personalmente me gusta y es un icono pero hasta ahí. Está en esta mínima lista por todo lo que significa y lo que ha trascendido a lo largo del tiempo. Muy probablemente la hayas escuchado por lo menos una vez y si no sabías de quien era pues ya lo sabes.

The lyrics are basic, he talks about the wonder that is the body of the woman he is with and that the only thing he wants is to share with her and explore that body all day long. I find it impressive how this track became one of the most listened to tracks by Mayer's people, personally I like it and it's iconic but that's as far as it goes. It's on this minimal list because of all it means and what it has transcended over time. You've probably heard it at least once and if you didn't know who it was, you already know.

- New Light

New Light es uno de los temas que más me gusta escuchar de Mayer por toda la melodía que trae consigo, la canción es absurdamente pegajosa y cool al punto que dan ganas de escucharla en bucle un buen rato. La incluiría dentro de lo que es el Soft Rock porque si, como casi todo lo de él es un tema muy calmado en donde lo importante es la letra y que te sientas bien con solo escucharla. Ya lo dije que John Mayer es un tipo altamente versátil y polifacético a pesar de que su música se pasee por ciertos géneros, la capacidad que tiene para innovar sin salirse de su estilo es bárbara porque es algo muy complicado, todo suena diferente a pesar de que es el mismo universo musical. New Light nos habla de este hombre que quiere tener algo con una mujer pero esta no le presta atención. Él lo único que pide es una oportunidad para conocerse y ya está. Si se ponen a pensar este canción es para ponerla de fondo en sus casas y disfrutarla, también el tema lo noto algo "tonto" pero desde el buen sentido de la palabra, es una canción que el contexto causa gracia porque el video y la personificación que hace Mayer va un poco de la mano también. Por estas cosas es que considero a John Mayer un genio, por la capacidad que tiene de crear música desde un sitio totalmente inesperado y que los temas sean unos verdaderos éxitos. Los invito a escuchar a este artista, es de lo más top que hay.

New Light is one of the songs I like to listen to the most from Mayer because of all the melody it brings with it, the song is absurdly catchy and cool to the point that it makes you want to listen to it in a loop for a long time. I would include it in Soft Rock because yes, like almost everything of his, it is a very calm song where the important thing is the lyrics and that you feel good just by listening to it. I already said that John Mayer is a highly versatile and multifaceted guy despite the fact that his music is divided into certain genres, the ability he has to innovate without leaving his style is great because it is something very complicated, everything sounds different even though it is the same musical universe. New Light tells us about this man who wants to have something with a woman but she doesn't pay attention to him. All he asks for is a chance to get to know each other and that's it. If you think about it, this song is to play it in the background at home and enjoy it, also the song is a little "silly" but in the good sense of the word, it is a song that the context is funny because the video and the personification that Mayer does goes a little hand in hand as well. For these things is that I consider John Mayer a genius, for the ability to create music from a totally unexpected place and that the songs are real hits. I invite you to listen to this artist, he is one of the best there is.

Si, en mi caso Mayer es un músico muy top porque personalmente me gusta mucho, tiene unas canciones increíbles de ahí a qué lo escogiera el día de hoy.
