A few days ago and as I almost always do I was immersed in Spotify mode listening and listening non-stop and I came across an artist that although I knew very well I had not listened to him for quite some time. It is an artist who in addition to having a privileged voice has the gift of being one of the greatest, influential and important music composers in the industry and yes, I'm talking about the great John Legend. I find it curious that a person with this level of quality in many aspects of music is not so consumed today, at least that is my perception. He will always have fans but many times it goes under the table; it is also true that these stars, being so consecrated, do not need to be always at the top or be viral or that their songs are always at the top. But well, speaking of songs, let's go with the trio I chose for today.

- Beauty and the Beast

John Legend has the particularity that he is a singer who usually does a lot of collaborations and what this has achieved is that we see him sing and interpret many things and styles, all coupled to what he really does which is a bit of Soul, R&B and Pop. I put this first song as a proof that the most mainstream will still sound spectacular, logically the merit in this case is not only his but Ariana Grande's voice as well. The Beauty and the Beast theme is one of the most beautiful Disney soundtracks and the fact that they have chosen two voices that complement each other so well to interpret it is a genius. Legend's voice is a bit high-pitched, always tends to go to the top, has a very marked and defined tessitura which always makes it stand out, no matter what he sings. But as if this were not enough, the guy is also a virtuoso at the piano, you will always or almost always see him accompanied by this instrument, I think it's like an appendix of his body. Well, I imagine that everyone has heard this song in infinite versions but I honestly believe that this is one of the best that can be out there and the reason is because of the delicacy with which it is sung, it is very top to hear Legend together with Ariana; that's why it is on my list, not for the song itself but for the way it is presented to us.

There are songs that border on perfection and I am more than convinced that this is one of them. It is Legend's most popular, biggest and top song and rightly so because the song is unique. It is impressive how with just a piano can be interpreted and transmit so much, if you ever want to sing something and have no idea how to do it, here is the best possible example. Chrissy Teigen is the name of his wife and the protagonist of the video so clearly the song is a tribute to the love he feels for her and the admiration that a person like her is by his side. The song comes from the deepest part of him, I know this not because he told me but because watching the video and listening to the lyrics you realize that, pure sincerity, love and respect is what you see and hear. In a few words he talks about the complement, of being there in spite of everything, in good times and bad, with all the imperfections, etc. In this song John Legend's way of singing is brutal because he makes the simple into something much bigger. He is not a singer who shouts, nor verbalizes much nor is he expressive, he is a guy who from passivity, subtlety and calm does all the necessary work to transmit and tell what he wants and that is All of Me. One of the best songs you can listen to.

- Love Me Now

In addition to the collaborations he does and always being at the piano, there is another thing that is very common with John Legend's songs and that is that in almost all of them he sings to love and what it represents. Another great song of his is this one, Love Me Now, one that invites us, as they say colloquially, not to leave for tomorrow what you can do today. As for the style, we see something different from what he has shown and this song is a little more moving and with a beat a little more energetic than what he has us used to. And it is a happy song, a song that does not say that you have to love today no matter what will happen in the future, you can not live with conditioning, thinking about what will happen to us the day we are not on this plane, what will happen to the people who are left here and with that love that there is. Those are problems that have not yet arrived and therefore we should not worry about them now, what we have to do is to love the people around us and live life day by day. That is the message that John gives us in this song and the truth is impossible not to agree more. Again his family being the protagonist in the video, it is known that the engine of his songs and when composing are basically them, hence the songs are all sticks; they come from a very pure and genuine place. A happy and joyful song that is also worthy of being listened to and enjoyed.
