How many here have Spotify? and more importantly, how many here actually listen to the soundtracks of their favorite anime? - Many times when we decide to watch an anime we focus, for the most part, on two things: its plot/story and the animation. But I know that there are a few out there that do pay attention to the soundtrack, either with the opening, ending or anything that is heard in the middle of the chapters. Many times these songs are perfect complements for these stories, they can describe a character, a specific event of the plot, a relationship, a feeling, etc. That is why today I wanted to see which are the most popular songs on Spotify to check the scope of this spectacular music.

Cuantos de acá tienen Spotify? y más importante aún, cuántos de acá escuchan realmente los soundtracks de sus anime preferidos? - muchas veces cuando decidimos ver algún anime nos enfocamos, en su mayoría, en par de cosas: su trama/historia y la animación. Pero se que por ahí hay unos cuantos que si les prestan atención a la banda sonora, ya sea con el opening, ending o cualquier cosa que se escuche en medio de los capítulos. Muchas veces estas canciones son complementos perfectos para estas historias, pueden llegar a describir a algún personaje, un hecho específico de la trama, una relación, un sentimiento, etc. Es por esto que el día de hoy quise ver cuales son esos temas más populares en Spotify para comprobar el alcance de esta espectacular música.

Some time ago I made a small review about the opening that I liked the most and I remember that at that time I said that “A Cruel Angel's Thesis” from Neon Genesis Evangelion was the undisputed winner for me. Today it's not about taste, today it's about popularity. I think currently one of the most played songs is Bling Bang Bang Born with almost 440 million. But is it really good or does it have those numbers because of how viral it became? - the reality is that the most listened track I could find is “Gurenge” by LISA from Kimetsu no Yaiba with almost 500 million. Personally if I have a couple of these songs in my daily playlist, they are great tracks that can be enjoyed anytime.

Hace un tiempo hice una pequeña reseña acerca de los opening que más me gustaban y recuerdo que en aquel entonces dije que "A Cruel Angel's Thesis" de Neon Genesis Evangelion para mi era el ganador indiscutible. Hoy no va de gustos la cosa, hoy es por popularidad. Creo que actualmente una de las canción con más reproducciones es Bling Bang Bang Born con casi 440 millones. Pero es realmente buena o tiene esos números por lo viral que se hizo? - la realidad es que el tema más escuchado que pude encontrar es "Gurenge" de LISA de Kimetsu no Yaiba con casi 500 millones. Personalmente si tengo un par de estas canciones en mi lista diaria, son grandes temas que se pueden disfrutar en cualquier momento.

Another one in this list is “Silhoutte”, one of the many Naruto themes with almost 345 million plays. I haven't seen Naruto (may the anime gods forgive me) but I understand that there are better themes than this one. Not having seen anything doesn't make me deaf, the song is very good and I understand people's attachment with this theme, it's why it's so listened to. “Peace Sign” from My Hero Academia also enters here. We all know how popular it is, I recently started in this anime watching the first season and the truth is that it is crazy, I know that this theme is from the second season but it is also one that sounds very hard, like almost all the ones that Yuuri has done.

Otra en esta lista es "Silhoutte", uno de los tantos temas de Naruto con casi 345 millones de reproducciones. Particularmente no he visto Naruto (que me perdones los dioses del anime) pero entiendo que hay mejores temas que este. No haber visto nada no me hace sordo, la canción es muy buena y entiendo el apego de la gente con este tema, por algo es tan escuchada. "Peace Sign" de My Hero Academia entra también acá. Todos sabemos lo popular que es, hace poco me inicié en este anime viendo la primera temporada y la verdad es que es una locura, Se que este tema es de la segunda temporada pero también es uno que suena muy duro, como casi todos los que ha hecho Yuuri.

“Unravel” by the great Tokyo Ghoul sneaks in here with its solid 360 million listens. I have to tell you that this is one of my favorites, it sounds spectacular, the high pitched vocals, the heavy rock; that's a very uncommon combination but it makes it sound amazing. As you may have noticed there is usually a trend of styles, we know that Creepy Nuts came to break the paradigm a bit, but the reality is that most fans are more inclined to rock in any of its forms, often pulling more towards pop but without passing up the heavy or metal itself.

"Unravel" del gran Tokyo Ghoul se cuela por acá con sus sólidas 360 millones de escuchas. Les tengo que decir que este es uno de mis favoritos, Suena espectacular, la voz aguda, el rock pesado; esa es una combinación muy poco común pero que hace que suene increíble. Como ya se estarán dando cuenta por lo general hay una tendencia de estilos, sabemos que los de Creepy Nuts llegaron para romper un poco el paradigma, pero la realidad es que a la mayoría de los fanáticos se inclinan más por el rock en cualquiera de sus formas, muchas veces tirando más hacia lo pop pero sin dejar pasar el pesado o el mismo metal.

“Kyouran Hey Kids!” from the anime Noragami. Here I'm in uncharted territory because I hadn't heard of this anime let alone its song but after hearing it I have to say it's another great track. This one has almost 240 million, a complete barbarity. It's typical Japanese rock or J-Pop but it actually sounds pretty good. “FLY HIGH!!!” by HAIKYU!!! I want to include it because this anime has taken a lot of name and echo lately despite being a few years old. This song has more than 150 million and I believe that as time goes by it will go up because of what I said before. This is one of the most pop songs of the group, it is not one of my favorites but I repeat, this is purely based on popularity.

Acá estoy en terreno desconocido porque no había escuchado de este anime y mucho menos de su canción pero después de haberla oído tengo que decir que es otro gran tema. Este tiene casi 240 millones, una completa barbaridad. Es el típico rock japones o J-Pop pero que la verdad suena bastante bien. "FLY HIGH!!" de HAIKYU!! la quiero incluir porque este anime ha tomado mucho nombre y eco últimamente a pesar de tener unos cuantos años de estrenado. Esta canción tiene más de 150 millones y creo que con el pasar del tiempo irá subiendo por lo dicho anteriormente. Esta es una de las más Pop del grupo, no es de mi favoritas pero repito, esto es meramente basado en la popularidad.

These are just a small sample of how immensely commercial anime can be for everyone. I don't want to fill the post with songs, I just took the ones that caught my attention the most because of the numbers they have on Spotify. If you are not on the app you can do the same experiment on YouTube. Besides enjoying watching anime I also listen to a lot of this music, I recognize it because they have great songs hidden out there. Generally people go more by their tastes but I think you also have to see what people think. Estos es apenas una pequeña muestra de lo inmensamente comercial que puede ser anime para todo el mundo. No quiero llenar la publicación de canciones, solo tomé las que más me llamaron la atención por los números que tienen en Spotify. Si no están en la aplicación pueden hacer el mismo experimento en YouTube. Además de disfrutar viendo los anime también escucho mucho de esta musica, lo reconozco porque es que tienen grandes temas por ahí ocultos. Generalmente las personas se van más por sus gustos pero creo que hay que ver también que es lo que piensa la gente. I don't remember many songs, I particularly prefer to skip anime openings, perhaps the only one I remember knowing is from that anime is Death Note. The introduction is simply fantastic.

Honestly listening to the anime songs seems strange to me, because of language barrers but, i know if i watch the anime especially action suspense part, i will fall in love with it.

Obviously I don't speak Japanese and understand it almost nothing but I think it's the connection that is created with the anime and at the melodic or musical level that makes you end up listening to them.
