(ESP-ENG) Hablemos de The Jackson 5!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
When we think of the great musical groups in history we always tend to name or remember the same ones we have always remembered, leaving aside others that certainly marked a before and after in music and in the career of its members. In this opportunity I come to talk a little of a group that back in the 70's began to dazzle everything on television, I speak of the group formed by the Jackson brothers: Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and the great Michael. This group, for those who don't know, was created by their father, Joseph, and horrible stories of mistreatment and exploitation of his children have come out of it. Some will say that this made them what they became, others will disagree but the reality is that the 5 were so extraordinary that in just one year they were already at the top. So nothing, I want to show you the best of them musically speaking.
- I Want You Back
The first thing to say about them is that their sound is mainly based on the well known "Motown" which is nothing more than a kind of soul where the bass is a vital part of the sound along with several drums and with the particularity that there is always a tambourine. Most of their songs have those characteristics that were the most popular in those years. I think that in this song in particular, what most attracts my attention is the bass, without it the song would never be the same, from the beginning it marks a melody that accompanies the song throughout its journey. Michael's voice was the leader despite being the youngest of the 5, something that from early on his father knew of his potential, despite how sharp he was, even as an adult, he stood out a lot, he had an important magnetism. I Want You Back talks about that person we see at a certain moment, we are dazzled but it turns out that this person goes another way. The lyrics are just that, asking for another chance and for them to come back. The magic of these songs, and we will see it with the others, is undoubtedly the sound, they all have something special either at the level of instrumentation or vocals but there will always be something that stands out. This one is one of my favorites because it spreads a lot of good vibes, I hope it does for you too.
- Who's Lovin' You
If I praised the previous song for an instrumental theme, I would say that this one is the opposite. The vocal level here is amazing, for me this is the best song they ever released, without any doubt. And basically it is of such magnitude because of the way and sensitivity that Michael had to interpret this song, today it is still sung by many and considered one of the most complex songs to sing, even Michael in his concerts always interpreted it because he knew that it is a song with a lot of heart and very loved by many. That a 9 year old boy was able to sing this song and that it has been recorded for eternity is very impressive, even if all this cost him and his brothers a little bit of their childhood, what they achieved was something very big. This is a song full of regret because it is a man who regrets having treated his wife badly and now that she is gone he cannot live without her, the everyday story. And it is so much so that he wonders who will be loving her now, it is very similar to When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars. The thing is that in this song as I said what stands out is the singing but this does not mean that everything else is worthless, the backing vocals of the other brothers, the violins, the piano at the beginning, everything combines to make this song as good as it is. Every time I listen to it I have to listen to it at least twice more because of the quality it has.
- ABC
This last one is perhaps the funniest of the three because of the message it gives, the way it is presented and because there is a more direct participation of the brothers, although it is true that Michael is always the leader here if we listen a little more to the other four. The lyrics are as simple as they are catchy, they talk about how in schools or colleges they can teach you everything in life, but if there is something that you need to learn and that is not taught there, it is about love. Thanks to a humorous and witty lyrics they try to make people understand that love is an easy thing and that it only takes two people to make it work. I put this song in this list because it is one of their most commercial songs, even more than Who's Lovin' You, which I think is really crazy. Besides the fact that this song is more focused to a younger group of people, more or less the age they were in those days, its lyrics are not as deep or as adult as the previous ones. The style as always is the same, in this case there are more drums than usual, which I think is very cool. These songs for me will never go out of style, I think that everyone who is a fan of Michael Jackson should also be a fan of The Jackson 5 because this is when and where it all started.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos escuchamos en la próxima!
Well friends that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to all of you, we'll hear you in the next one!
Saludos!!
