(ESP-ENG) El maestro del rock, Phil Collins!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Many times we take for granted the existence of several artists, we understand that they are there but we rarely sit down to watch or in this case to listen to what they really do and I think this happens with Phil Collins. This Briton is one of the most important and talented musicians that music has given in recent years, not only for his songs but for his versatility because in addition to singing he is also a composer, drummer, a very good one indeed and even an actor. Today I decide to talk about him basically for the same reason as always, I was listening to some of his songs and I felt like doing a little review. I know you know him but I hope that after this you will be encouraged to listen to him a little more.
- Drums, Drums & More Drums
As I said Collins is a virtuoso drummer or percussionist, whatever you want to call him, so one of his songs consists only of rhythmic patterns between two drummers and later in the song with Latin percussion instruments: timbal, tumbadoras and bongos. For me who has percussion in my blood, even though I don't practice it often, listening to this is honey for the ears because it is through these "solos" that one realizes how good these musicians really are. The point here is that it is not something improvised, maybe in certain parts it is, but everything has a meaning and a reason, each hit, the fils he makes and even each roll if you listen carefully has a pattern and a tempo and that is why we can call this piece a song. I think very few people knew this side of him, it is not what he usually does but when he decides to do it he dazzles or dazzled on stage. Phil Collins currently suffers from a disease that affects his spine so one of his last presentations was in a wheelchair, hard images considering what he once was. An artist like few others who was able to be liked in several facets within the music, something that today is quite complicated.
- You'll Be In My Heart
One of the most important and well-known soundtracks in the history of Disney movies was made by Phil Collins to the point that he even won an Oscar at the time, in fact the soundtrack of that film is almost his. You'll Be in My Heart is a song that speaks of pure and unconditional love that can be had towards another living being, understanding the context of the film. That in the end it doesn't matter what people think or how much time passes, you'll always be in their hearts beyond death itself. Personally this song is in my top 3 among all the songs that make up this Disney conglomerate. There is also something that characterizes Collins a lot and that is his tone of voice, it seems to be a bit nasal but I would think it's just a bit high pitched; in the end that is his signature because when we hear something from him we quickly identify him. I know this song doesn't have a lot of rock in it but it was wise to play it to understand the versatility of this artist. Besides the fact that ballads can go very well hand in hand with rock, it is usually a combination that fits perfectly.
- Another Day In Paradise
This is one of Collins' greatest gems, a song that I would say is a reality check on what it means to live. Here we have a soft rock with ballad tinges, those that suit him very well. I think the melody of this song is what hooks the most, the instrumentation makes the sounds so particular that in the end they end up in our mind. As I was saying, the song talks about a person who is walking down the street when suddenly a woman crying asks him for help because apparently she is having a bad time, but the man ignores her and continues on his way. On the one hand it is the lack of humanity that can exist in people and that is so common these days and on the other hand it is about simply valuing what you have no matter how insignificant it may seem. Something I like about these songs is the tranquility they radiate, almost all of his songs go that way which makes them more powerful. Phil Collins for me is one of the great artists of the 20th century, a true master of music from any angle you want to look at it.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos escuchamos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, we'll hear you in the next one!
