En estos días escuchando música de manera random y despreocupada me llegaron a mis oídos par de canciones que la verdad tenía cierto tiempo que no escuchaba y me hicieran pensar ciertas cosas. Carlos Santana, para los amantes de la guitarra, es uno de los mejores del mundo en su clase, yo al no saber tocar dicho instrumento no puedo dar una opinión un poco más calificada pero por lo que entiendo y escucho tan lejos en mi pensamiento no estoy. Lo que si soy es fanático a muerte de la musica en todas sus formas y si les puedo decir que ciertas canciones de Santana ya han pasado al lugar de ser clásicos, de temas que tu al escuchar las primeras melodías ya sabes que son del mexicano/estadounidense. Es por esto que el día de hoy quiero compartir esos grandes temas que han hecho que el gran Carlos Santana sea quien es hoy en día, un gran guitarrista pero sobre todo un gran músico.

That's why today I want to share those great songs that have made the great Carlos Santana who he is today, a great guitarist but above all a great musician.

Creo que la energía y la vibra que trasmite esta canción es como pocas. Este gran tema forma parte del gran álbum de Santana, "Supernatural", de los mejores de él y el cual tuve el placer de tener original. Estamos ante una canción que ganó 3 premios Grammy, mejor canción del año siendo uno de ellos lo cual para la época, finales de los noventa, es una locura ya que justamente en aquellos años la industria de la música estaba ampliamente dominada por el pop anglo por lo que una canción de rock latino/alternativo se colara entre las mejores del año es impresionante. Smooth lo tiene todo, letra pegajosa, un ritmo único con mucha influencia latina y la virtuosidad de Santana en la guitarra. Creo que aparte de él lo que más disfrute son los metales, increíble como por la forma en la que acompañan le dan una profundidad distinta al tema. Como dije hay muchos elementos latinos, timbales, tumbadoras, el Güiro, los cuales le dan un sonido muy particular al tema. Yo escucho esta canción y es sinónimo de alegría, el video es buena vibra también ambientado en Harlem y que me lleva a una época muy cool de mi vida. La letra va dirigida a una mujer y de todo lo que uno sería capaz de hacer por ella. Santana acá demuestra, como siempre, que se ajusta a lo que sea, una canción que en manos de otro artista puede ser cualquier cosa, acá termina siendo un éxito total.

Si antes hablé de la versatilidad pues con esta canción se sigue haciendo grande. Con Smooth vimos un poco de Rock con productos latinos, en esta oportunidad escuchamos algo totalmente diferente, acá hay R&B con un poco de Blues. Otra particularidad es que en colaboración tenemos a un joven Wyclef Jean quien fue uno de los encargados de que este tema viera la luz y se produjese. También perteneciente al disco "Supernatural" María María es algo muy parecido a Smooth en lo que a contexto y hasta en los visual se refiere, de hecho muchos de los videos de Santana de esta etapa se parecen bastante, si buscan Corazón Espinado con Maná verán que es más de lo mismo. Todos los músicos en la parte de afuera de una casa cantándole a María, una mujer que se gana la vida en la calle y que tiene unos encantos únicos. Lo más cool de la canción es que a Santana lo vemos tocar dos tipos de guitarras, la eléctrica y una acústica, obviamente con sonidos diferentes pero tocadas las dos de maneras esplendidas. Es más, el sonido de la acústica es como el cable a tierra de las raíces latinas ya que en esta canción no se percibe tanto. Siempre he pensado que Santana es de los pocos guitarristas que hace hablar a las guitarras, en este tema se puede notar mucho eso cosa que me parece de locos. Gran tema este, el más escuchado de él en Spotify.

En esta oportunidad hay que remontarse hasta los años 70 con el disco Abraxas en donde Santana versionó este gran tema de una banda británica. Creo que este es el menos comercial y más puro de esta pequeña lista que el día de hoy les traigo y por tanto uno de los que más me gusta. Además del toque característico latino la tendencia de este tema es el jazz y quizás un poco de folk por ahí; sin dejar de mencionar que el 80% de la canción es instrumental detalle que la da mucho más carácter al tema. Anteriormente dije que Santana tenía la capacidad de hacer hablar al instrumento, al ser un instrumental esto queda demostrado con creces. Aunque también la parte en donde escuchamos las voces es espectacular. Hay mucho timbal, mucho sonido de platillos característicos del jazz y hacia el final hay un ritmo peculiar de una campana que se usa para solear en una canción de salsa, en este caso se usa para acompañar a Santana con un solo de su guitarra. Esta no es una canción muy conocida pero la incluyo acá porque el trabajo musical que hay detrás de ella es brutal y es un reflejo de lo buen artista que es Carlos Santana, un music que todo el mundo debería de escuchar.

Besides the characteristic Latin touch the tendency of this song is jazz and maybe a little bit of folk; not to mention that 80% of the song is instrumental detail that gives much more character to the theme. Previously I said that Santana had the ability to make the instrument speak, being an instrumental this is more than demonstrated. Although also the part where we hear the voices is spectacular. There is a lot of timbales, a lot of jazz cymbal sounds and towards the end there is a peculiar rhythm of a bell that is used to solear in a salsa song, in this case it is used to accompany Santana with a guitar solo. This is not a very well known song but I include it here because the musical work behind it is brutal and it is a reflection of what a great artist Carlos Santana is, a music that everyone should listen to.
Santana tiene más repertorio, Oye como va, el famoso tema de Tito Puente, que lo versiona de una manera exquisita, Smaba pa ti, que es una especie de batucada instrumental de alto nivel y Corazón Espinado, de lo más comercial quien junto a Maná sacaron un tema con un sonido muy parecido a lo que el grupo mexicano nos tiene acostumbrado. Si no han escuchado mucho de Santana les recomiendo que lo hagan, vale mucho la pena.

Un gran artista y cada una de sus música son muy buenas, la cual he logrado escuchar varias de ellas y esa combinación que logra hacer con la guitarra y los demás es increíble, donde se convirtió en un gran ídolo de la música. Genial que hayas disfrutado de ese par de canciones y revivir grandes momentos de la música.
Santana es un grande, lo escucho desde chamo. La calidad de sus canciones es brutal considerando que es un guitarrista, eso habla de la mente creativa que es.
Smooth es impresionante, los metales de esa canción son increíbles.

Yo si toco la guitarra, no cualquier guitarrista logra que una marca de guitarras saquen una guitarra a su nombre, la marca que lo patrocina es PRS son muy buenas guitarras y bonitas, por supuesto caras también.
Para mi siempre ha sido muy subjetivo el termino de buen guitarrista, porque ser un buen guitarrista no te hace famoso necesariamente, esto lo digo porque existen mejores guitarristas que Santana, por darte solo dos ejemplos, Joe Satriani y Eric Johnson. Ellos tienen mucha mejor técnica, son más rápidos, más virtuosos, pero mira que los números son bastante diferentes. Por lo que llego a la conclusión que Carlos al ser latino ha tenido una mejor acogida a nivel global, le suma las colaboraciones que hace, porque sus canciones, algunas tienen letra, a la gente le llega mucho más eso al corazón, identificarse con una letra, que con una frase de guitarra muy bien elaborada y que pocos humanos sobre la faz de la tierra van a poder tocar nunca!.
76 años tiene ya don Carlos Santana, hay personas que llegan a los 100, por lo que puede que haya musica nueva para rato.
Muy de acuerdo con lo que dices amigo. Otros de los temas acá es que Santana sin dudas es más comercial que los otros dos con todo y que Satriani sea la leyenda que es, estamos hablando de un tipo que le dió clases a Kirk Hammett. Pero si, al ser latino y toda la música que ha hecho y los featuring han hecho que tenga los números que tiene.
