Vietnam continually reveals delightful surprises, as I discovered yesterday when a simple dinner plan unexpectedly plunged me into the energizing chaos of a massive downtown music festival. Navigating the swarms of exuberant locals on my quest for food, I soon found myself immersed in the city-wide HOZO festivities - a welcome accident culminating in thumping DJ beats that capped off an extraordinary night!

Craving veggie Vietnamese fare after laptop working all day, I mapped my location to a promising plant-based spot not realizing it resided smack in District 1’s core. But my GrabBike could only thread so far through frenzied traffic before I continued the remaining blocks on foot, perplexed but intrigued. Soon, a park entrance materialized, from which emanated a steady bass thump and oceans of people. I had tapped into an epic event!

Wending slowly through joyful thickets of young locals singing and swaying along to an elevated concert stage, I grasped that Saigon hosted some massive annual music festival sprawling across downtown. Soon I had forgotten hunger, caught up watching talented bands put their spirited spins on global chart-toppers to screaming audience approval. It seemed all of Saigon’s passionate youth congregated here as dusk fell!

After finally grabbing a quick vegetarian meal at a shop (Moments before it closed), I found space near an elaborate DJ rig now pulsing candy hued illuminations over the enthusiastic crowds dancing harder as midnight approached. The positive energy felt palpable amid the summer night warmth. Eventually the ocean of music fans dispersed contentedly, capped with a magnificent fireworks display I glimpsed biking back.
