Christian Music Hits Hard

avatar

Is your concept of "Christian music" generally defined by derivative melodies and vapid lyrics? I think it might be time to shake that up a bit with a few tracks from the past few decades. Are these obscure? Yeah. But narrow is the gate and loud is the music which leads to salvation.

Stavesacre - Witch Trial

And you know how it is...
All of this time and so little has changed
The powers that be
Assuming authority
Have you no memory of how this always ends?

Project 86 - The Butcher

I said
"Hit me now
And we’ll see where it leads
Cut me out
If you think I will bleed
Strike me down
If you think you’re a man
'Cause I know that you don't understand"

Underoath - Casting Such a Thin Shadow

Not too much to overcome
With enough time to turn it all around
In a picture perfect scenery
I've become a stick figure illustration

Living Sacrifice - Screwtape

Just a fascination of what lies beyond
A life that's free
Under mind responsibility
My greatness is wide
Love of self, the lie
Curse the scrutiny
Embrace the thought inside

Life In Your Way - Ruler of the Air

The Kingdoms: The are divided
Don't be fooled
Darkness, this is the kingdom of darkness
That's why we wrestle not with flesh and blood
Deception, where the truth is bent just a little to fool you
Hoping in things that are ruined by moths and rust
Darkness will steal, kill, destroy"

Tourniquet - Tears of Korah

Today the same, they rail His Name
Deny the fact of the Savior's act
They say, "You know that we can be the Holy Priests"
By words you'll try, by words you'll die
Tears of Korah

Nice post! Tourniquet is the only band I know here. I'll check out the others later. Have you heard of Theocracy?

These are not half bad! Christian music with growls?

Yeah, it exists. It's an even smaller niche genre within the tiny niche genre of CCM.

I love all the songs
I don't really listen to the likes of them but they sound nice
The voices are lovely

Hello @jacobtothe honestly I love how you talk about Christianity on the blockchain not many people are bold enough to do that.

Good job!

I know my posts are not exactly typical theology. I hope I am asking the right questions and not giving the wrong answers as I poke at my own ideas to see what's really solid.

As soon as I saw the title I knew Living Sacrifice would be on the list :) I've had Reborn on repeat I don't know how many times.

I grew up on LS and Project 86.

Others that might qualify here: Stryper, Petra, P.O.D., Skillet, Justifide.

P86 is awesome. I wasn't aware of them until some time after ...And The Rest Will Follow was released, but every album has solid stuff.

I have POD, Petra, Skillet, and Justifide in my playlist. I like some Stryper songs, but hair metal is less my style and I don't own any of their music. White Heart had some good stuff for more of an arena rock sound. I think my first proper Christian Rock introduction was one of their cassettes.

My dad got me started with The Imperials and Larry Norman. Didn't take long for me to graduate to hard rock and metal, although I don't think he realized it :) I'm not religious anymore and haven't been for a long time, but I still like to listen to Christian rock for some reason.
