Reflections on Love and Sacrifice
I have a feeling that no matter how many times I'll describe or write about Love, I'll never be able to touch everything. You know that feeling of letting go of things or making compromises for the person that you love? Or the part where you allow them to do things that make them happy even though it may not be in your best interest?

It's just like the sacrifices our parents make for us. They'd prefer to go hungry just so we could eat. They'd prefer to look away when they see the most shiny things that they can afford and would love to own just so the money can be put towards our education or anything meaningful that concerns us.
I think you got the memo.
So when Matt Holubowski sings Around Here with such beautiful lyrics about love, I couldn't help but remember the little sacrifices we make in order to make sure the people we love are happy and well taken care of.
You see the first part of the lyrics is suggesting a place you can go when you want something new. Even though you want this place to be a place of escape instead of space, you just need to go there because you need to ruminate on some aching.
We all have that safe place where we go to breathe out our frustrations. Especially when we are quarreling with people that we love. Matt, exclaims, Oh Love! Oh, Love!
I know you already know that you usually say things like, "If not because of how much I love her or him, I would....", So Matt, exclaims Oh Love, Oh Love, because, "Love, look what you made me endure because of how I feel about this person!"
It's an uphill battle getting some of the people that we love to understand that we care about them and would never do things to hurt them. But they can be selfish as well as frustrating when they want everything, all of you, without necessarily sacrificing even an ounce of the same energy for you.
So, you might always need safe places to go and gather your thoughts because letting go might seem near impossible, especially for someone that you love very deeply. I am of the opinion that the psychology around loving someone and making crazy sacrifices for them is beyond us. We have tried to study, understand, and practice, but this psychological thing still eludes us, somehow.
So it's easy for us to listen to a song in an instant and everything floods back as a wave hitting the sea. And if there were heartaches here and there, we can't help but feel the pains all over again.
Fast forward to the last verse, you will find that Matt regrets not cherishing the tiny thing as holding the hand of his partner. This of course happens to almost all of us.
We could have someone who cares about us, wants the best for us, and shows commitment to making it work, but because we are in over our heads or have a myopic feeling about how the world works, we take them for granted. Until we lost them. They are gone. Never to return. Poff!
Again, he needs to go to a place to ruminate over those things he lost track of, and considered trivial when he had his partner. Those things that if given the chance he will take them seriously. Things that if he had the chance he would prefer not to do them again as long as it makes his partner stay. Things he abuses. Neglected. Threw into the wind. Took for granted. Everything. Anything.
Does any of this sound familiar? It should!
Dear my lady @iskawrites !
They say that love between two people can only be maintained if one of them always sacrifices, right?
I guess so 🥺
hmmm, these are really deep talks, love is blind like they would say. it is very necessary to watch your energy in a love dilemma so as not to fall in love with yourself. what i mean is that, the energy you give should be also the same amount you receive. if you don't get back the same energy you're giving out then there is a problem and you may be forced to quit completely.
music has a way of healing us as well, especially in a love scenario.
