Esto pudiera parecer extraño, pero escuchar ese maremágnum sonoro siempre me conecta con la sensación de vitalidad. A veces cuando mi ánimo está de baja me doy una pasadita por cualquiera de estos centros que me queden cercanos y allí obtengo mi dosis de bullicio.

Esta semana cuando caminaba distraídamente mirando sin mirar las vitrinas de las tiendas me llegó un sonido conocido, al principio no lo pude identificar plenamente, pero al acercarme al negocio de donde salía vi en la pantalla de un TV la inconfundible imagen de unos músicos maquillados. Sí, en efecto, se trataba de Kiss, la célebre banda norteamericana.

A Kiss siempre lo relaciono con mi hermano menor. Entre él y yo tenemos quince años de distancia, cuando nació yo estaba en plena adolescencia, casi por terminar el bachillerato y comenzar mis estudios en el Pedagógico de Caracas.

Mientras él crecía yo estaba en otra cosa, pendiente de mis estudios universitarios, de mi novia, y del Rock. Así que poca atención le prestaba a ese hermano menor. En estos días en una conversación él me recordó ese tiempo en que se sintió abandonado por mí. La verdad es que me sentí muy mal de haber tenido ese trato con él en esa época de mi vida.

Al terminar mis estudios me casé y cambié de ciudad, eso sin duda no contribuyó a qué nuestra relación fuese más cercana. Para colmo mi madre también se mudó de ciudad lo que empeoró las cosas, se nos dificultaba muchísimo vernos.

Entre una cosa y otra estuvimos bastantes distantes hasta que él comenzó el liceo. En ese momento fue que nos relacionamos más puesto que vivíamos en la misma ciudad.

Por ese tiempo descubrí que al igual que a mí a él también le gustaba el Rock. En otras conversaciones mi hermano me ha comentado que aunque era muy pequeño recordaba perfectamente que mis amigos y yo éramos fans del Rock.

En sus oídos infantiles se fueron grabando aquellos sonidos de Deep Purple, Cream, Black Sabbat, Led Zeppelin, y todos los grupos de moda que la pandilla escuchaba en el pequeño equipo de sonido que había en la sala de nuestra casa.

Seguramente que esa influencia se quedó en él y a medida que fue creciendo enriqueció su cultura rockera con otras sonoridades como Kiss, AC-DC, Barón Rojo, Metallica, Miguel Ríos y tantos otros…

Fueron muchos los grupos, discos y canciones que él me dio a conocer entre ellas la que les traigo hoy.

En verdad nunca fui muy fanático de Kiss, su sonido no me terminaba de convencer. Cosas mías, sin duda, puesto que es una de las bandas más exitosas en la historia del Rock. Pero al lado de Kiss siempre preferí a Led Zeppelin o Pink Floid.

La canción que les comparto hoy: I was made for lovin´ you. Fue publicada en 1979 en el álbum de estudio llamado Dinasty, y como tantas otras tiene su historia.

En varias oportunidades Paul Stanley, el cantante de la banda ha comentado que la canción nació como una especie de reto para ver si podría componer rápidamente una canción que combinara el Rock con la música disco.

Por aquel tiempo Stanley era un asiduo visitante de la legendaria discoteca Studio 54, de Nueva York, para muchos un paraíso donde se podía consumir sexo y drogas a placer, sin ningún tipo de restricciones. Para otros, la célebre discoteca solo fue un gran templo de perdición.

Cuando entendió suficientemente aquel ritmo pegajoso se le prendió el bombillo y decidió que haría algo que la banda nunca había hecho, fusionar el rock con la música disco. Fue así como en una o dos noches ya tenía grabado lo fundamental de la canción.

Pero no le fue fácil a Stanley convencer al grupo para que la grabara. Había muchas reservas al respecto. El resto de los integrantes pensaban que ese tipo de sonido les haría perder a muchos de sus seguidores, fervientes defensores de una música de rock más tirando al metal. Sin embargo, el carisma y la voluntad de Stanley se impusieron y logró que se grabara la canción.

Para sorpresa de todos. Desde el mismo momento en que fue lanzada como sencillo, I was made for lovin´ you fue todo un éxito. Y a partir de entonces se impuso como una de las canciones obligatorias en cada una de las presentaciones en vivo de la banda.
